Catch A Dream by Fliss Goodwin

Hi there, I hope you managed to catch the earlier of the That’s Crafty! shows on Hochanda today but if you didn’t, fear not as Neil is on again at 2pm and there are some amazing new goodies on the shows which produced squeals from most of the Design Team when we saw them. I’m really delighted to be able to share one of my creations with you today, featuring one of the stunning new surfaces, the GiganTAG.

Ingredients:

That’s Crafty! Shimmer Paints – Blue, Pink and Purple
That’s Crafty! Texture Stamp Set 2 – for the crackle image
That’s Crafty! Stencils – 8x8 Alphabet Stencil, Word Series Dream and Create
DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylic Paints – Cobalt Teal, Primary Cyan, Carbon Black
PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Acrylic Paints – Lilac, Lavender, China

Recipe:

I first gave the tag a coat of gesso to make a base for the following layers of paint. I then brushed on the PaperArtsy paints in sort of rough diagonal stripes, ensuring that there were some darker streaks on top.

I then sponged on the 3 shades of shimmer paints, which don’t show up in their full glory in my pics, but, believe me, the shimmer is amazing! I followed this with stamping on the crackle image from the texture stamp set with the Brilliance ink for even more shimmer.

The next step was to decide on the placement of the feathers, which I added is a sweeping shape across the tag. Having decided on the placement, the fun part begins – painting the feathers! I added flowing brush strokes of the blue and mauve DecoArt paints to each of the feathers. When the paint was dry, I added strokes of black paint. When everything was completely dry, I used the white paint pen to make a dot pattern on top of the black.

I then made the text for my tag using the various stencils to make up the first part, applying the primary cyan paint to the mixed media paper to form the letters. I outlined them with the black Sharpie pen and added white dots to tie them in with the feathers. I cut them all out leaving a small border which I then painted lilac to pull everything together.

I glued everything in place with silicone glue, which I find is the strongest to ensure that nothing drops off!

Have a great day and a lovely weekend.
