Art Journal by Melina Dahl

11:00

I´m an art journaler. I have like ten journals that I currently work in already, but I couldn’t resist this MDF/acrylic Book from the That’s Crafty! Surfaces range. So, now I've got eleven ;)

Today I´m sharing how I made the cover.

I used:

Cogs and Washers (the greyboard ones are a good alternative to real)
Distress Inks different red and pink colours
Distress Ink Pads - different brown and black colours

I started by applying modeling paste through the Art and Journal stencils and let that dry. After that I did the same thing with the brick and cog stencils. I covered everything with white gesso.

Then I started to play with the red and pink shades of Distress inks and water, lighter in the middle and darker towards the edges.

I placed the Art and Journal stencils again and this time added rust paste on top of the modeling paste. I used all three, brown, red and yellow. On the cogs and bricks I randomly went over with some rust paste as well.

I went over the cogs and bricks with brown and black Distress ink and added some Evergreen Bough Distress paint here and there. I added the real cogs and washers using gel medium.

I outlined the words using a black Posca pen and finally added some splashes with black and white using the Posca pens.

Now I can´t wait to start playing with the acrylic pages in this book!

Melina
