Hi there, as it’s a certain romantic day this weekend, I have a heart themed art panel to share using some of those fabulous That’s Crafty! Surfaces which I can’t get enough of at the moment!

Ingredients:

That’s Crafty! Surfaces – MDF 8x8 Panel, White/Greyboard Heart size 8

That’s Crafty! Dinky Stencils – Tall Hearts Background, Flight of Butterflies, Chevron Background

Gelli Plate – 8x10

Ranger Archival Ink – Jet Black, Watering Can

PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Acrylic Paints – Blush, Lavender, Rose

DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics – Pyrrole Red, Cobalt Blue Hue, Titan Buff, Carbon Black

Micro porous tape (in the First Aid section of a supermarket)

Recipe:

First prepare the panel by stamping the text from the Zorrotte set all over with the black Archival ink and allow to dry – this won’t take long!

Next apply the Blush, Lavender and Buff paints to the Gelli plate and spread roughly with your fingers to around the size of the art panel. Press the panel on to the Gelli plate to pick up the paint and smoosh a little with your fingers. You want some of the text underneath to show through as it adds lovely texture.

Use the heart shape positioned at an angle on the left side to draw a shape with a pencil and paint the resulting shape with white gesso.

Paint over the top of the white heart with the lavender paint – just do this roughly as it doesn’t need to be perfect. When the paint is dry, stamp the lace from the stitches set round the right side with the grey ink, bending the stamp a little on the block so that it curves round the edge.

Next prepare the white/grey board heart, brushing with gesso using a stiff brush (this adds texture) and then paint red with the same brush. When this is dry, use a sponge to tone the red down a bit with gesso and the lavender paint.

Now make some custom washi tape using the micro porous tape. I’ve actually made more than I used here so you’ll probably see the rest on another project very soon. I simply stuck strips of tape to a plastic clipboard and sponged on red and rose paint. When this was dry, I used the stencils with the red, black and cobalt DecoArt acrylics to add a pattern.

To make up the art panel, stamp some stitching on to the panel with the grey ink. Add angular strips of your DIY washi tape on the right side and glue the red MDF heart in place. Stamp some stitching on the heart and dry brush some gesso and blush paint onto the panel to tone down the washi tape and pull all the elements together. Stamp the text from the Tim Holtz set on to finish.
