That's Crafty!: White Embossing Powder

It's time for another That's Crafty! make from me using some of the fabulous products available. Today i'm sharing a quick and simple make using the fabulous Sparkler Sprays.

My creative time has been very limited lately but recently I needed a card for someone special who needed a hug but live too far away to receive a real one.

This is my Thinking of YOU.. Card.

On to a piece of 350gsm Slate coloured card I spritzed with Gold, Blue and Red Sparklers Sprays allowing it to puddle and dry without force.

I stamped the Rubber Dance Fly Fly Flowers designed by Melina Dahl

on top and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

Cut to size and machine stitched I glued onto a 5 x 7 card and

added Ranger Stickles glitter glue sparingly.

The sentiment is from PaperArtsy designed by Emma Godfrey.

A very quick but effective card with a touch of cosmic

Thick black card can be used as an alternative

Hi everyone,

Donna here today using a really fab and unusual stamp from Rubber Dance.

What to do:

Take a sheet of Strathmore Mixed Media Paper and proceed to swoosh it through a mixture of the green, yellow and brown Distress Oxides, which have been diluted first.

Dry the background thoroughly and place to one side.

Now this is where the confession comes in as the figure was originally stamped and white embossed directly onto a tag that had been painted with a blue shade of Fresco paint. However, I messed the tag up but couldn’t bear to throw the whole thing away so I fussy cut the figure out.

Within my stash I had this pair of Tim Holtz die cut butterfly wings which were assembled from a Gelli print and black card and I thought….as you do….hey this figure needs wings!

Adhere the winged figure to the card, then taking one of Tim’s chipboard sentiment, swoosh it through a little orange colour Distress Oxide and then add another little sentiment at the top of the card.

Mount onto black card and then white cardstock.

A quirky card, oh yes indeed. By the way, does anyone else feel really reluctant to cover up a Oxides background too much?!

Hi everyone. Today I am sharing a That’s Crafty! MDF tag (No 8 size) – what a great surface to work on!

I painted my tag with PaperArtsy Fresco paints and then added some background stencilling and stamping. The white splatters and little yellow flowers are stamped with chalk paint use stamps from PaperArtsy EEG22. The circles are That’s Crafty ! Dinky Stencil TC003.

Once completely dry I stamped the Motivational words from one of Tim Holtz’s new stamp sets in versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder.

I finished with some copper wire and little stars from my stash (painted with the same colour paints.)

Hi Everyone

I’ve been playing again with my favourite, That’s Crafty! MDF board
which is the 9” x 4.5” piece.

Here’s What I Did:

First thing to do is give the MDF a light coating of gesso, I do this using a piece of Cut and Dry Foam to avoid it not only going on to thick but also avoids brush strokes remaining.

One that is dry I then blended, in stripes, 3 colours of Dylusions paints using a wide flat paint brush. Using 3 colours actually creates a finish of 5 colours as the colours blend beautifully where they overlap each other (lime into the teal and pink into the teal).

I then stamped onto the board using the flowers, the centre of the flowers come empty put you can stamp into them using an available coordinating stamp set, which I have done. I then painted out the background with black paint, I used PaperArtsy Little Black Dress paint for that as I wanted a totally matte finish. To finish the flowers I highlighted parts of the flowers using a white paint pen.

The last touch was to add the sentiment which I heat embossed, to ensure I got a crisp finish I first tap over the area with the anti -static bag before stamping and embossing it.

Hi everyone,

Donna here today and I thought I’d dig out the Brushos for a little change. All the colours will be back in stock very soon at That's Crafty!

What to do:

Use a sheet of Strathmore Mixed Media Paper for this as you’ll be using quite a bit of water to dilute the Brushos.

First up, stamp Tim’s wildflowers with Versamark and emboss in white, heat set. This will act as a resist to the Brushos.

Sprinkle on a mixture of Brushos (stick to the light colours) and spritz with a good blast of water, dab with a kitchen towel and dry thoroughly.

Use a mixture of Tim Holtz and Katzelkraft stamps for added interest in the background with black Archival ink.

Trim to size, mount onto black card and then white cardstock.

Beauty in simplicity ;)

Hi everyone,

Donna here today with Treena the bird and a slightly cosmic background.

What to do:

Take a sheet of Strathmore mixed media paper and cut to size to fit a 6x6 card, stamp Treena with black Archival ink and then mask off with masking fluid, splash some of the masking fluid randomly on the background at the same time too, make sure it’s all dry before starting on the background……I know this all too well!

Now sprinkle some Infusions (Violet Storms) over the paper and spritz with water until you’re happy with the colour, dry thoroughly.

Use Distress inks through a couple of Dinky stencils’ to add depth to the background.

Once you’re satisfied that the background is complete, start to remove the masking fluid, when that’s done start to colour in the bird image using a mixture of Distress markers.

As a finishing touch stamp the sentiment that accompanies Treena and heat set with a white embossing powder.

Mount onto black card and then white cardstock, Treena looks out of this world now ;)

Hi everyone,

Donna here today with a fossil style tag for you.

What to do:

Use a size 8 manila tag for this, stamp your images using Versamark ink and then sprinkle on some white embossing powder, heat up with a heat gun until the powder ‘melts’, allow to cool down.

Next randomly sprinkle some Infusions over the tag and spritz with water. You may need several goes at this to achieve the grungy effect you want. I personally find the best Infusions colour for this effect is the ‘The Sage’.

To finish off use the cut out numbers from Tim Holtz tickets and then one of his lovely sentiments too.

I must just say a big thank you to the lovely Alison Bomber who did some ATCs’ on the PaperArtsy blog a few weeks back featuring one of these fish fossil stamps and that inspired me to have a go myself. I’d looked at this stamp before but never imagined how to use it until I saw her creations!
