This week I returned to play with one of the wonderful MDF Chunkies.

The Chunkie can be displayed standing upright or resting on an easel but I liked the idea of it displayed resting on a large leaf, there is something nice about randomly picking it up, nestling in the hand, pretending it is a talisman.

Instructions

Prepare Chunkie by assembling with craft adhesive before applying Chestnut Brown paint. Follow this by applying the Crackle Glaze (following instructions) then the top coat of Ivory and White paint. Also prepare the resin heart with the same supplies but with emphasis on the White more than the Ivory paint.

Prepare the stencilled calico by partially stencilling Mandala, with the Texture Paste, onto calico which had been stained with tea and coffee.

For the greyboard wing, the Rust Finish Kit was applied. Once dry, the wing was pressed down into Antique Gold paint which I had smeared onto a silicone craft sheet. I have found this to be a method which gives me the results I am looking for.

Once the elements were prepared, I first layered the scrap of stencilled calico towards the left side of the Chunkie. As I layered the heart to the Chunkie, I trapped the "rusted" wing to the left side of the heart. To the top of the heart, I wrapped rusted wire and some nettle yarn, allowing the tail ends to remain free.

Partially inked Affirmation was stamped onto piece of found card, stained with walnut ink crystals, layered onto another piece of walnut stained found card.

The months seem to fly past quicker with each passing year.  My head is still telling me it is August, certainly not December or my final D.T. project for 2018!

This week I am sharing a panel. I struggled in capturing the true colours, the light has been so poorly here.

For this final project, I managed to sneak in some favourite products.

Instructions

I don't have any step photos to share with you for this project, only some details.

I worked with the same colours to prepare the MDF panel, calico, wings, Deli Paper and twig.
I began by preparing the panel of torn calico, stencilling with Light Texture Paste and the Mandala stencil, not stenciling the full Mandala design. I focused on the central element which was stencilled twice. This was left to dry thoroughly.

I then gave attention to the MDF panel.

I swiped some Light Texture Paste onto the panel. Next, I applied a wash of Gesso, allowing to dry before randomly applying paints. I did this by applying the paints I wanted to work with, onto a craft sheet and then taking the panel to the sheet, pressing it into the colours. It is very random and messy.  The final colours to apply, using this same method, were White Fire and Antique Silver.

Returning to the stencilled calico, I applied the same paints, this time applying with a baby wipe, squeezing out excess moisture from the baby wipe before applying the paints.

I rolled a twig into the remainder of paint, working on a craft mat. Adhering the twig to panel.

Finally, the black watersoluble pencil was scribbled around the edge of the panel, smudging with a baby wipe before finally, applying with fingertips, the beautiful Antique Silver paint to the edge.

This week I am sharing an Art Shrine.  I might find myself not working with one of the Art Shrines for a while but rest assured, I always return to them.  They are such a fabulous surface to work with.

Sorry, I have no stepped out photos for this project because it was made, working from my lap as I sat in the lounge in the evening but I do have detail photos to share.

First, I assembled the shrine. If you are new to the Art Shrines, they are so easy to assemble. Once that was prepared, I applied the Ivory paint.  Following the instructions for working with the Crackle Glaze, I applied the Glaze followed with Chestnut Brown.

For the greyboard large wings, I swapped the paints around, applying the Chestnut Brown first with Ivory applied after the Crackle Glaze.

I then stained two tags with the Flat Matte sprays, soaking it with Walnut spray, allowing to almost dry before spraying Redwood.

One tag was placed inside the shrine before adhering the prepared wings. To the centre of the wings, a smaller stained tag with the stamped up Affirmation, cut into strips.



The finishing touches were pieces of corrugated cardboard from the Mixed Media Paper/Card Kit, soaking with Flat Matte Spray Walnut, allowing to dry before swiping with Ivory.

Adhere pieces to top and bottom of Shrine and for the top piece, topping with piece of twig.  For bottom piece, adhere button.
