That's Crafty!: DecoArt Fluid Acrylics

Good Morning!

It is starting to feel like autumn here in Hertfordshire

and there is nothing I like more on a day like today

than grabbing a cuppa and hiding away in my craft room.

Today I am sharing 3 autumnal floral ATCs.

What I did:

I started by making my backgrounds using a combination of yellow and orange Fresco Paints through the Distressed Harlequin stencil. These Dinky stencils are the perfect proportion for ATCs.

I chose 3 of the small funky flower heads and stems, marked the shape of the flower on the stem and trimmed to fit my card.

As I wanted the colours to 'pop' I gave the greyboard a thin layer of white paint, but you could also use Gesso.

Using 'London Bus' Fresco by PaperArtsy I covered the flower head below with 2 coats of paint.

I painted the other 2 flower heads in a similar way.

To liven up the colour I rubbed a little gold wax (or Lustre) lightly over the top, the effect is amazing. I have shown close ups of before and after the wax so you can see the effect it makes.

I used DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics to paint the stems, I mixed Green Gold and Yellow Green Light together and once it was dry I brushed a brown paint lightly over the top.

13 Arts have a lovely 6" x 6" paper pack called Rose Fields, I used this to back the open part of the flowers.

Once the flowers and stems were dry I glued them into place on my cards. I used a fine black journal pen to give a border and used Idea-ology 'ChitChat' stickers by Tim Holtz for titles.

My favourite flower is the one below, I love the Quinacridone Violet from DecoArt especially with the little bit of gold on the top.

For my little bit of Tuesday art for you this week I've gone all grungy.

Here's What I Did:

My piece started using an 6" x 6" MDF That's Crafty! square which I painted in PaperArtsy Midnight paint. I then painted on quite a thick layer of That's Crafty! Crackle Glaze and left that to dry (it is still tacky when it's dry). I then painted over with PaperArtsy Buff and DecoArt Quinacridone Gold and waited for the cracking magic to happen.

When the paint was all perfectly dry I lightly sanded over the surface to further add to the distressed look. Over the painted surface I stencilled one of Seth Apters stencils using black Archival ink and Cut and Dry Foam. I then sanded back the black stencilling to lighten the black and make it look distressed.

Then I laid Seth Apters Retreat Circle stencil (new in the shop) over the background and using Cut & Dry Foam added Versamark through the stencil. I heat embossed this using Chunky Rust Baked Texture Embossing Powder.

Once that had cooled I sanded that back to dull the look further. I then laid the stencil over again, lining it up with the first embossed area and embossed again with the Chunky Rust just the centre rings and again slightly sanded them back. I wanted the centre rings to be more prominent than the background circles. To the centre I punched a circle from an old picture (I used a Tim Holtz Found Relatives card from my stash) I also heat embossed it twice using Vintage Beeswax Baked Textures. I added a Small Talk sticker which was also heat embossed twice with the Vintage Beeswax. Both were added to the piece using That's Crafty! all purpose glue which I haven't found anything it wont stick yet! I added it to the frame which I had made months ago and never used. It is an 8" x 8" canvas which I decorated using the reverse of the canvas as the front. I covered it in torn pieces of book paper and painted it using a selection of Seth Apters paint collection from PaperArtsy. I also added rusted wing nuts that I had lying around that I had rusted up using rusting powder.

Hi everyone. I recently found a couple of cheap notebooks I had bought and left lying around my craft room! I decided I should alter them. Today’s project is the first of these and tomorrow for the new challenge I will share the second one.

I started by placing a piece of copy paper between the cover and the inside pages to avoid getting paint on the inside lined paper and giving the covers a coat of black gesso. I took the large That’s Crafty! Fossil stencil and sponged PaperArtsy Chalk coloured Fresco paint over the front and back cover. Once this was dry I repeated with DecoArt Fluid Acrylic Dioxazine Purple.

I added black gesso to piece of white card and embossed with a folder from my stash. I lightly sanded the surface to reveal some of the white underneath and then added a Quinacridone Magenta wash. I stamped one of the quotes from Tim Holtz Motivation stamp set in Black Archival and added a wash of the pink/purple paints.

Finally I took some of the That’s Crafty! greyboard butterflies and stippled a little gesso for texture before painting the same colours.

I adhered my layers to the surface of the book and once dry coated in matt varnish.

Hello everyone. Today’s creation is one I made a while ago for a Hochanda show but realised I hadn’t shared it. The surface is the That’s Crafty! MDF clock – very easy to alter and comes with all the parts for a working clock. I have seen these made into wonderful bright clocks but I chose to age the surface using a variety of DecoArt Media fluid acrylic paints…..here are the steps I took.
