A Vintage Bloom by Liz wheeler

For today's guest project I'm continuing with my gel plate and metallic paint obsession to create a vintage-themed card using the beautiful rose stamp from Jenine's Mindful Art Collection from Studiolight, and a trio of Metallic Paints from Rich Hobby.

I started by adding some Rich Hobby Metallic Paint in Pistachio to my Gel Press and brayered to leave a thin coat. I then placed one of my floral stencils onto the plate, rubbed a scrap piece of paper over the top to lift off the excess paint, then lifted the stencil to reveal a subtle pattern in the layer of paint on the gel plate.

I then inked the Rose stamp from Jenine's Mindful Art Collection with Stazon Midnight Blue and stamped onto the gel plate over the stencil layer (be careful not to smudge the image as the plate can be quite slippy). Once the ink had dried I applied a thin layer of Cream and Lilac Rich Hobby Metallic Paint with my brayer.

I took a print using some watercolour card and then used the Lilac and Pistachio metallic paints to colour the body of the rose bloom and leaves. I layered the paints quite thickly to create some texture to the stamped image.

I then mounted the card onto a black card, adding a multiple line border around the image with my Black Posca Pen.

A really soft, subtle result but one of my favourite techniques using the gel plate to create a quick and easy background image.

I hope you have a go at this technique - you won't be disappointed.

Happy Crafting, Liz
