That's Crafty!: That's Crafty! Surfaces White/Greyboard Panel

Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening everyone, where ever you are in the world I hope you are keeping well? It's my turn to share a little That's Crafty! Creativity with you all and today i'm showcasing a project using new paints and surfaces from the That's Crafty! range.

Here in words and pictures is my Dance of the Dragonflies Panel:

Covering a 4.5" x 9" White/Greyboard panel in white Gesso I pushed crackle paste through the Abstract Stones Dinky stencil randomly around the board. When dry I brushed Blue and Turquoise Shimmer Paints all over the panel drying each coat with a heat tool. I repeated the process again and wiped back areas of the paint to expose the colours underneath using a wet wipe.

I stamped script from the Textures Stamp Set 2 using Versafine and heat embossed using Stampendous Gold. Pink Shimmer paint was dabbed in areas around the panel and heat set with added embossing powder.

The wings of the Dragonfly Greyboard Bits and Pieces have been stamped using the wings from Lynnes Affirmations Set 2 and heat embossed. The bodies have been painted with shimmer paints and roughly wire wrapped to add interest. Gilding wax has been rubbed across the wings to bring their delicate detail out.

Antique Gold paint has been delicately dabbed in between the crackled areas, around the Dragonflies and the panels edge. The Dragonflies have been glued on to the shimmering background completing My Dance of the Dragonflies Panel...

Instructions...

1. I began by adding a base coat of white gesso to the panel, then I painted it with Primary Magenta.

2. To make the stencilled patterns stand out on the magenta background, I first stencilled with the tinting base which is opaque white, then with the colour. So for the bubble wrap design, I first stencilled with tinting base, then with Cobalt Blue Hue. The chevrons were simply stencilled with tinting base, and the butterflies were stencilled with just Carbon Black as this gives opaque coverage.

3. I painted an old book page with a thin layer of white gesso, then stamped the butterfly and cut it out. The phrase from French Lily Background was stamped on the edge of the book paper so there is no text beneath.

4. Using matte medium, I adhered the butterfly and phrase to the panel, then used a black journaling pen to outline and add detail.

5. To finish, I used the end of a paintbrush to add tiny dots of paint to the stencilled butterflies.

I seem to be drawn to setting flowers, birds or butterflies against a scene of rusted dereliction.

The Abstract Stone Dinky Stencil, a favourite when it comes to working with nature themed stamps, helped to bring texture to this panel.

Instructions

Apply Grunge Paste to stencil, randomly onto panel. Once dry apply Infusions, generously misting with water. Apply Gesso with old credit card, while Infusions are still wet, heat set, then apply patches of the Rust paint. Heat set before applying more Infusions and Gesso. It’s just a matter of some playtime, building up layers.

Stamp various JOFY flowers and leaves onto the panel, highlighting with Infusions (mainly The Sage and Lemoncello) and white paint pen. Stamp JOFY texture stamp randomly onto panel.

Onto scrap white cardstock apply Infusions (I use any leftover Infusions on my craft sheet), misting with water. Stamp sentiment. Cut into word tiles, adhere to panel, randomly drawing boxes around each tile.

Create white splatters with diluted Gesso, flicking onto panel.

Finally, ink edges of panel before wrapping some Gypsy Cord around bottom edge.

Here's what I did...

1. I started by priming the panel with white gesso, then painted a background with Payne's Grey and Cobalt Blue Hue.

2. I used various Dinky stencils and DecoArt paint colours to create a stencilled background, then added some stamping, using black ink with the Wire and white paint with the Messy writing.

3. I stamped the Man & Bird onto white card, then cut him out, inked the edges with black, and adhered to the panel. I painted the man's heart with primary magenta, then added a layer of Glossy Accents.

4. I added some stencilled hearts, using DecoArt crackle paste. Then I stamped the phrase onto white card, cut it out, inked the edges, and glued it to the panel, adding Glossy Accents on top.

5. I finished my panel, by inking the edges with black ink.

Hello everyone Debs here joining you today with some flowers.

Here's what I did

There are a number of photos so get yourself a cuppa, sit back and enjoy!

Step 1 - using sprays with mica in I sprayed the board and let the paint run and drip and run. I dried it with a heat tool and then using a Dinky stencil I added some interest.

Step 2 - using more Dinky stencils and ink I added to the background, build depth. Once I had finished I dried it and then gave it two coats of Matte Medium as I wanted to seal the sprays as they are still reactive to water.

Step 3 - I have been drawing flowers since I was a little girl and in particular this design. so thought I would have a go at carving it out. I also carved some leaves. (Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of the stamps). I then used white acrylic paint with the stamp to give the flowers a light base to work from. I also painted in some stems.

Step 4 - I started to colour my flowers with Gelatos. Building up the layers with reds, pinks and white for highlights. I also started on the leaves.

Step 5- I finished off the flowers and stems adding yellow to the centres, and then outlined the flowers etc in a black water soluble Pencil to bring back the edges.

Lastly I gave the board two coats of gloss sealer. You do have to be careful as you do this because the pencil is water activated and can causes lots of black smudges.
