The months seem to fly past quicker with each passing year.  My head is still telling me it is August, certainly not December or my final D.T. project for 2018!

This week I am sharing a panel. I struggled in capturing the true colours, the light has been so poorly here.

For this final project, I managed to sneak in some favourite products.

Instructions

I don't have any step photos to share with you for this project, only some details.

I worked with the same colours to prepare the MDF panel, calico, wings, Deli Paper and twig.
I began by preparing the panel of torn calico, stencilling with Light Texture Paste and the Mandala stencil, not stenciling the full Mandala design. I focused on the central element which was stencilled twice. This was left to dry thoroughly.

I then gave attention to the MDF panel.

I swiped some Light Texture Paste onto the panel. Next, I applied a wash of Gesso, allowing to dry before randomly applying paints. I did this by applying the paints I wanted to work with, onto a craft sheet and then taking the panel to the sheet, pressing it into the colours. It is very random and messy.  The final colours to apply, using this same method, were White Fire and Antique Silver.

Returning to the stencilled calico, I applied the same paints, this time applying with a baby wipe, squeezing out excess moisture from the baby wipe before applying the paints.

I rolled a twig into the remainder of paint, working on a craft mat. Adhering the twig to panel.

Finally, the black watersoluble pencil was scribbled around the edge of the panel, smudging with a baby wipe before finally, applying with fingertips, the beautiful Antique Silver paint to the edge.

I was once again inspired by nature for this Mixed Media panel. As always, I have added my little bits of this and that and have also incorporated found elements as well as beeswax. This panel can easily be made without beeswax. So you might ask me, why did I take the trouble to use beeswax?! I wanted to show how the That's Crafty! MDF Surfaces will allow you to work with a variety of media. This panel had Gesso, Infusions which were very generously misted with water, dried with heat tool, stamping and then beeswax. They are a substrate which any Mixed Media artist would confidentially create on.

Instructions

Randomly apply Gesso to both MDF panels, ensuring some of the MDF peeks through.Sprinkle Infusions onto upper area of panel and tag, generously misting with water. Leave to dry or heat with heat tool. 

Stamp ELB stamp  repeatedly onto panel and also onto tag, checking the alignment of the grasses for when the tag will be adhered to the panel. Continue stamping, this time with the Affirmations stamp "These wings belong to me". On upper left corner of panel, stamp script from Textures Collection.

At this stage, I melted beeswax pellets in the Melt Pot and coated the panel and tag with beeswax but as I said in the intro, it isn't a requirement.




For the butterfly focal, I stamped the butterfly from Textures Collection onto two separate pieces of dried, stained teabag paper. The first image was laid onto the tag and coated with beeswax. Allowing the beeswax to cool, I then placed the second stamped image directly over the first and this time, only applied beeswax to the upper edge, sealing it to the tag but allowing the stamped image to be lifted so bottom image can be viewed.

If not working with beeswax, Gel Medium could be substituted.


Stamp the wonderful PaperArtsy EAB quote onto found paper, this was a scrap of eco dyed rice paper. As for the upper butterfly image, apply thin line of beeswax along top edge of stamped quote.
Below the stamped quote you will see some extra texture, this was simply some torn pieces of the teabag which I dipped into beeswax and laid onto the tag.


Final touches, wrap nettle yarn around off-cut from tree branch, adhering to top of panel. Adhere the tag to panel, this can be done with melted beeswax or Gel Medium.
