Go With the Flow by Amanda Southern

Hi Everyone
Whilst there are lots of new things around at the moment, and I have recently been playing with some of the new releases, I can't be alone in owning older stamps that have never seen an ink pad so this week I've inked up a stamp set, that I've had a while that up until now hadn't even been out of its packet!!

That stamp set was "Fossils" designed by Andy Skinner for Stampendous.

Here's What I Did:

I created a gelli print background by blending a light cover of turquoise paint and into that I made marks with gel press combs creating squiggles and circles by twisting the tools around I've also pushed some stencils into the paint to create shapes along with some plastic spray can tops. I then left that layer to dry. When that was dry I then brayered over another layer of paint using several colours and pulled the print. The wet layer of paint will pull the lower layer of paint of with it giving you texture patterns on your print.

You can see some of the painty designs that this creates on your pulled print.
I then stencilled on top of the print with both paint to create the bubbles and seaweed effect and then the foreground seaweed effect in black I have used black Archival ink pad applying the black with Cut & Dry Foam.
I then stamped on using black Versafine ink and used a Stamping Platform to allow me to repeat the stamping as you don't always get a first great stamped impression when stamping onto a gel print (well I don't).
I added a little white detail using a white posca paint pen.
Onto a separate piece of card I stamped my sentiment and cut the words out to add them in a curved shape so it looked like it was moving in the water. I then went round the edges of each cut out word with a black fine liner pen.

All was then added to black card and then to an 8" x 8" card blank.

Here's What I Used:
Gel Press - I used an 8" x 10 but there are lots of sizes
Acrylic Paints - You can use any acrylics but I used Dina Wakley acrylics
That's Crafty! Dinky Stencil - Bubbles TC005
PaperArtsy Stencils - I used PS031 but this is similar
Also PS024 from my stash
Stampendous Stamps by Andy Skinner - 'Fossils'
That's Crafty! Clear Stamps - Lynne's Affirmations Set 5
Tim Holtz Dot Fade Stencil
Black Card
8" x 8" Card Blank

Hopefully I've inspired you to dig out some of your stamps that you've never inked, trust me I have a lot to go lol!
Have a fabulous week and I'll see you all next Tuesday
Love
Amanda X

  2. Love this - the fossil fish look fabulous amidst the bubbles and seaweed, and the contrasting colours work beautifully in the background. It's a great stamp set - I've only inked up the frog, I think - but now I want to get it out again when I get home.

  3. I love this , Amanda . Your gelli plate background is fabulous and makes a perfect setting on which to continue buiding your underwater scene. The deep black stamping and stenciling adds such a fantastic dynamic. x
