Creativity Takes Courage by Amanda Pink

 Hi Everyone

For todays post I have created a card using some of  Tim Holtz products, namely his Distress Spray Stains and Stampers Anonymous stamps including some from the very latest release.

Generally, I have a tendency to go grungy/vintage when I use Tim's products but I thought I'd veer away from that this time and try a kinda cool contemporary design that would include some open space, brighter colours and bold black imagery.

I worked on mixed media paper throughout the creativity.

The background panel began with a stencil monoprint.
I spritzed That's Crafty! 'Dotty' stencil quite randomly with Tim Holtz Distress Spray Stains (Salvaged Patina, Wilted Violet), spritzed the inky stencil lightly with water, flipped the stencil over and placed it ink side down onto the panel of mixed media paper. Then, with a paper towel in hand pressed around the stencil, left it to sit for a while. before removing the stencil to reveal.
Loved the result!

Next, I  added some simple black ink stamping around the sides of the panel using a couple of  Tim's stamps.

The dots are from one of the newly released stamp sets  'Inquisitive'.

The numbers from one of last years releases, 'Faded Type'.

To add some layered elements and 'feed' my design I stamped out some 'targets',  also from 'Inquisitive'.
I cut then at various points within the 'target' and adhered them around the background.

Next to introduce the man himself, Cedrick. He's from Tim's newly released 'Observations' stamp set.
Just like the 'targets' he would be adhered to the background so I stamped him with black Archival ink on a spare piece of mixed media paper and water-coloured his face and collar with Distress inks
(Tattered Rose, Salvaged Patina, Wilted Violet, Salty Ocean and Chipped Sapphire).

Now, he usually wears a monocle but on this occasion he decided he wanted to wear his 'pince-nez', so I simply stamped a second monocled eye, cut it out and adhered over his left eye , drawing in its supporting chain with a micron pen.

To finish I added a few words, taken  from Tim's 'Tiny Text' stamp set....

  1. I rarely do the stencil monoprint technique and this really makes me want to! It looks so vibrant and detailed with these saturated sprays. Such an inspiration Amanda, thank you!
