Animal Magic by Fliss Goodwin

Hello!

I have another of my samples for the recent shows on The Craft Store to share this week and I challenged myself to create something with all of Melina's new zentangle design stamps and this concertina booklet was the result.

Step by Step:

My booklet uses some of the new craftyboard postcards for the cover so I measured these and the took an A3 sheet of cartridge paper. The pages are roughly 9 x 13cm but you can adjust these to your preference very easily. I folded the paper in half vertically and cut it to 13cm. I then measured 9cm all along with a ruler, marking with a pencil and starting at the centre. This is because you're then left with 2 narrow end pieces which you can use to attach the pages to the front and back cover.

I scored the strip using a scoreboard and bone folder and once done, misted it with Saffron, Ochre and Orange Flat Matte Sprays. I used the background stamps from the lion set with darker toning inks to add a pattern to the pages.

I then repeated the spraying on the back of the strip with Rose and Bluebell Flat Matte Sprays but leaving the surface plain.

I stamped the images from both the lion set and the owl set on smooth white card with black ink - I found that you need quite a juicy ink pad to get the best impression. I added a small amount of colour to the images with pencils and then cut them all out.

I glued, the giraffe, lion and bug to the orange shaded side, leaving the second sheet as I wanted to add text. I used alphabet stamps to form wild and free and cut the letters out individually, gluing them to the second sheet.

I added the owl, moon and cat to the pink and blue side, cutting the owl from the frame and stamping the moon and stars, adding the cut out moon over the top. I stamped a floral spray from the Floral Backgrounds set on white card, colouring with pencils and cutting out the individual flowers and leaves. I glued these to the last page next to the peeping cat together with a strip leftover from another project. I added text from the owl set to the pages too.

I then prepared the covers by painting the postcards with Mustard Multi Surface Paint outside and in. I used the new Square Circles stencil with orange paint to add a pattern to the front and back. I stencilled over the top with the dotty stencil and Bright Red paint.

I stamped on the backgrounds with one of the little background images and black ink. I then created my chosen text for the front using alphabet stamps. Before gluing it in place I added splatters of slightly diluted paint in black, white and red. I ran black ink round the text and added this.

Now came the finishing off and I took 2 pieces of my ink spray overflow paper and cut them to fit the inside covers.

I glued my concertina section in place with the tabs on each end and glued the end pieces over the top to finish.

Well I hope you managed to keep going through all that and will see you next week with something completely different.
