Instructions

To prepare the pages I firstly applied white Gesso randomly to the pages. To this, walnut ink was applied in a very loose manner. When applying it was only in select areas on the left side page only. To this, I simply reached for the paints I had near to me which were PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Acrylics in Spanish Mulberry and Chalk applied with a brayer to one side before pressing the facing page onto the left side and gently pulling away. This was allowed to air dry before applying more areas of walnut ink.

A more intense area was created with Pearl Ink in Black and once applied, drying brushing small areas of white Gesso.  To this a black watersoluble pencil was used to form marks.

The focal of this page is a stained tag. The tag was stained with walnut ink. To provide a distressed appearance I scrunch the tag, I like to dip into water to soften, scrunch and then dip into walnut ink, once dry, tearing off bottom edge. One of the Scribbled Words was stamped onto the tag and to the centre of this, a butterfly cut from the Craft o'Clock sheet rests upon a circle of scrap, painted paper cut from using the fabulous A4 Circles Stencil. To provide an even more grungy effect, dry brushing Gesso onto the tag and edging with the black watersoluble pencil. The tiny piece of paper on the bottom right cover of the tag is a scrap of eco dyed paper which had Acrylic Liquid Wax applied and to this simple marks made with Pearl Inks and small paintbrush.

I suppose it could be said for any style of project whether collage or assemblage but for me, journals more than anything are a wonderful place to incorporate all those little pieces of papers, textiles, etc that we have accumulated, they somehow come together to tell a story.

Tucked towards the left side of the tag, some journaling on a piece torn from the journal along with more marks with Pearl Inks on scrap piece of paper and nestled behind that is a piece of teabag paper which was stained with walnut ink and then coated with Liquid Acrylic Wax.

The facing page is actually the page torn approximately in half horizontally. Throughout this journal I wanted the pages to be staggered, I say this journal but it is something I have previously carried out in other paper journals.

Topping this page is a large CraftyBoard circle, with a piece of painted cardstock layered to it and on the right side, a piece torn from the Rice Paper sheet.  To embellish, a rusted washer and another scrap of paper with marks made with Pearl Inks. This focal was layered to a piece of paper with more walnut ink applied to it and more journaling.  Stitching to the top of the torn journal page with simple handstitches.

Oh I should add that before stitching the piece of walnut ink stained paper, the piece torn from this page was saved and journaled onto and then adding grungy marks with more walnut ink and Pearl Inks.

Thank you for visiting this post.
