Deconstruction by Helen Chilton

For this post I've taken a stamp and completely deconstructed the image to create a fantasy townscape.

This stamp is by Carabelle Studios and is called 'Cathédrale'. I've stamped it twice in black, one image upside down. As we're going to cut it up, this helps me to see different shapes and images that can be used.

So, cut it up into small buildings/arches/stairs/towers etc. and layer onto a piece of background paper.

I then coloured them in - you can use ink pads, pens, reinkers, whatever you've got.

I thought I'd add a bit of stencilling in Teal and Ocean.

I decided also on a bit of Bright Magenta stencilling to tie in with the buildings. I then went for a bit of black blob stamping.

To finish off, I added some bricks round the edges and then stamped and cut out some more building elements, but this time left them white so they'd stand out. I love that wavy line - I've used it to make clouds on the final piece.

So, there's my deconstruction - it certainly made me think and start looking at other stamps in totally different ways!

Hope you've enjoyed this post.

Helen
