Hi Everyone
This week I am sharing with you one of the samples that I made to support the launch of new That's Crafty! products that appeared on Hochanda last week. This weeks make uses a couple of new stamp sets designed by my talented team mate Lynne Moncrieff.
Here's What I Did:
This is my take with a couple of sets of Lynne's new stamp sets and the That's Crafty! Craftyboard 4" x 6" tabbed journal. I had the idea to turn the Craftyboard covers into a faux leather look and this is how I did it. The nature of the Craftyboard is quite soft and it struck me that it would probably emboss using the power of a die cutting machine, I used the A4 Big Shot for this as I wanted to use a manual machine. I took the covers of the journal and layered up the sandwich for the Big Shot using That's Crafty! 8" x 8" stencil Flourish (please refer to your manufacturers instructions) and fed it backwards and forwards through the die cutting machine. It embossed like a dream and gave a deep impression in the Craftyboard. Next I painted it, on both sides of the covers, with Christmas Red That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paint.
Once the paint was dry I rubbed over Rich Black Antique Cream getting it into all the grooves and then wiped it off with a dry cloth and then polishing the surface.
I think it really looks like old leather.
Next was to complete some of the pages, which were all done in the same theme. Each page was coloured using That's Crafty! Walnut Flat Matte Spray. I sprayed onto my glass mat and picked the colour up with the Craftyboard pages I then edged the pages with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. The pages were then built up using the fabulous script stamps from Lynne's Scribbled Words Set 2 and Lynne's Nature's Gatherings Set 1. You will see here they all follow the same theme.
There is some stencilling on the pages, stamping on old book pages, the addition of bits of cloth and buttons so that the book follows a theme. Stamping has been done using Versafine Clair ink pads and stencilling using Vintage Photo Distress ink pad. There are also some additions of Tim Holtz Idea-ology some of which are from my own stash.
Here's What I Used:
That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints - Christmas Red
That's Crafty! Flat Matte Sprays - Walnut
Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Vintage Photo
