Do It Flamboyantly by Amanda Southern

Hi Everyone
This week I have an art journal page for you using the fabulous stamps, some old, some new, from Carabelle Studio designed by Kate Crane, I just love these stamps.

Here's What I Did:

This page has been created in my 8" x 8" Dylusions art journal and started from a clean off page, a page that I had just spread leftover paint from a previous project.

I liked this page but it was a bit bright so I wanted to know back the colour so I randomly brayered over it with some white gesso. Onto that I then stamped random stamps from Kate's collection and in a variety of ink colours. Well I'll be honest at this stage I didn't like it the stamping just looked too much so I went for a cup of tea! On my return I still didn't like it so I knocked it back again again with some gesso and 3 colours of Dina Wakley paint, it began to grow on me now. Some of the previous stamping was showing through the layers of paint which looked, well to me, much better. I then added some, what I call reverse stencilling, laying down the paint adding the stencil and removing the paint with a baby wipe, I then added some black stamping.

The circles with the letters in have been paper pieced on. then I was happy as I didn't want the background to be to distracting from the images I was to add.

I chose the characters that I wanted to stamp and decided to paper piece the clothing onto them so I grabbed a selection of my background paper packs, brought to you by That's Crafty!, and stamped the images directly onto them and cut out the clothing parts.

This gave them some colourful outfits without me having to colour them. I then stamped the images again, this time onto stamping card and pieced on their outfits.

I then coloured all the skin and hair parts with coloured pencils ready to add to my page.
I stamped the fish hat on the skittle girl several times and coloured them with pencils as each of the characters was to wear a fish hat.

A little coloured pencil and white pen work on the outfits adds a touch of definition. They all stand on a piece of torn washi tape and some more stamping on one of my papers that I cut out.

The sentiment is one of my favourite from the recent launch of 3 new sets from Alison Bomber for PaperArtsy, stamped onto stamping card, cut out and added and outlined with black then white pen.

Some doodling around the edges with a black pen finishes my page.

  1. So clever how you created the clothes with the papers, and I'm completely in love with that layered background. Amazing colours to start with (gotta love a mop up), and wonderful stamping and knocking back to create the perfect setting for your family to change their lives! Brilliant.
