Lost World by Gillian Humphrey

Making journals of your own allows you to customise them so they reflect exactly what is going on in your head at the time and is something I absolutely love to do - this project would work equally well as a mini book for photographs but here I have used it to showcase the past - we are the product of the past and we shape the future.  I felt that this was such a relevant thought at this difficult time that I would put together a collection of words that reflect past times and at the same time showcase the wonderful new Craftyboards that That's Crafty! have recently brought into their shop.

The base of my album is created using the tabbed journal crafty board by That's Crafty! Each page was covered with papers with Fleeting Moments papers by Craft O'Clock https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/craft-oclock-6x6-paper-pack-fleeting-moments.html. I then sanded back the edges and then using That's Crafty multi surface paint in Chestnut Brown  https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/thats-crafty-multi-surface-paint-chestnut-brown.html I added an irregular layer of brown paint around the edges of each page to frame them.

I then planned each page using a combination of the cut apart pieces from the paper pack, some larger tags I cut myself, Craftyboard arches and frames https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/thats-crafty-surfaces-craftyboard-arched-windows.html and https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/thats-crafty-surfaces-craftyboard-frames.html  and some pieces from Craft O'clock decorative tracing papers .https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/craft-oclock-decorative-tracing-paper-set.html. Behind each frame and window I added a vintage photo image from the paper pack and also the Craft O'Clock Vintage photo pack https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/103132.html. I also added some extra chipboard elements that I felt co-ordinated with my theme (you may be have them in your stash as they have been brought to Hochanda by That's Crafty in the past)

Having decided on my layouts I set about altering the Crafty boards. I added a layer of Chestnut Brown multisurface paint and when that had dried added a layer of  That's crafty acrylic wax  https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/thats-crafty-acrylic-liquid-wax-60ml.html. Whilst the wax was wet I sprinkled on some embossing powders and then heat set the wax and powders. This created texture in the wax which I hihglighted using Finnabair metallic Wax in vintage gold  https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/prima-finnabair-art-alchemy-metallique-wax-vintage-gold.html

Having prepared all my pieces I then added them to each page. For extra detail I splashed more of the Acrylic wax over the pages and added embossing powder to this heat setting it as before (thank you to Jo Channon for the wonderful tip).

I edged my chipboard pieces with finnabair wax before coating them with a thick layer of the acrylic wax which then crackled beautifully as it dried.

Finally I stamped with Ranger Black Archival Ink https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/ranger-archival-ink-pad---jet-black-42549-p.html the alphabet from the new numbers and script stamp set  https://www.thatscrafty.co.uk/thats-crafty-clear-stamp-set-numbers-and-scripts.html on to scraps of left over paper before cutting out individual letters and adding words to each double page spread.

This album/journal may take a while to put together but is a great way of spending a few of the extra hours we all have at the moment in a constructive way - for me it is a break from work and for others I hope that crating will help lift your spirits and keep your mental well being in a good place. Take care and stay safe until my next post but remember there is a new post from a different DT member every day so don't forget to stop by for more inspiration
