Be Home a Book by Lynne Moncrieff

Hello

In this book, I wanted a place to journal thoughts that freeflowed, relating to these strange times. The journaling appears in two layers, which relates to my thoughts which were multi-layered.

Once again, I turned towards PaperArtsy EAB stamps to provide me with the stamped words. One stamped quote was used in its entirety as it hit the perfect tone for these times, for the other side of this book, I dipped into several EAB quotes, arranging stamped words to form my own thoughts.
This is a long blog post but there were many layers involved in this book.

Instructions

This book took different twists and turns, I got a little bit carried away with layers so much so that many were obliterated but I am okay with that!

Onto the watercolour paper, walnut ink sprayed.

To this, Frescos were applied, very randomly. I also work with clear gesso.

To this, more walnut ink added.

With watersoluble pencil, tracing around the Art Shrine house shape (I later decided I didn't want this height so I tore the bottom length).

After cutting out two lengths of house shapes (=6 houses), white paint was scraped on/off the paper, followed with more walnut ink.  As I said, this book took different directions, as at this stage, knowing I wanted circles, I scribbled them onto the houses, also defining the house outline and adding journaling, all with the watersoluble pencil.

Holding the pencil at the end, allowed for a looser style.

I knew that most of this journaling would be obscured with more layers but it is so freeing to add thoughts, that come tumbling out, no planning of what to write.

This was for both panels and both sides.

Taking the two panels to the sewing machine, they were stitched together to form a 5 panel book.  To create detail and strength, the sides of each house were machine stitched.

Partially inking up Seth Apter Minis, the stamping brings texture to the panels but most will be covered

when dry brushed with Buff and Glacier Ice

with more walnut ink and water, allowing to air dry.

In fineliner applicator bottle, fluid white paint which allowed me to journal

Reaching for the A4 Circles Stencil (never far from my sight), circles cut from the A4 painted watercolour paper

added to the houses.

The beautiful Interference Gold was applied, with fingertips to the book.

The circle stamps from ATCoin Set 11 were stamped onto both sides of the book. The circles would bring a flow to the book and a place for the stamped words to nestle in and suited the theme of this book.

Only one of end of the front and rear of the book, a tree was stamped. Why a tree? I wanted to represent the outdoors in this book, looking to the outside from inside.

Some photos of the completed book.

The PaperArtsy EAB stamps, stamped onto painted watercolour paper, the stamped words placed inside the stamped circles,

edging the words with black fineliner pen.

Book cover

Throughout the book, PaperArtsy Mini Designed by Seth Apter, were inked up, focusing only on small elements of each stamp, such as dots.

The Interference Gold paint from That's Crafty! is beautiful to work with.

By the time this post goes live, there should be a wee video of this book on my Instagram and Facebook.

Stay Safe .....

  2. This is totally gorgeous Lynn. I love the sentiment the piece conveys. Do you find the paper tears on the accordion where it's been stitched though?
