Story Of A Leaf by Lynne Moncrieff

Hello

For this collage, I worked with underpaper which already had areas of Gesso, Walnut Ink Crystals, touches of Navy and Silver Pearl Inks which was then adhered to a That's Crafty! MDF Panel - you probably have realised, I NEED those MDF panels near to hand!

With this collage, the stamped word story might seem disconnected to the actual collage when I could have selected words directly associated with the natural world but leaves, as much as flowers, trees, etc, all contain their own story.

Supplies

That's Crafty! Clear Stamp Set ATCoins Set 11
That's Crafty! Clear Stamp Set Lynne's Carved Stamps Set 2
That's Crafty! Surfaces MDF Panel Pack of 3  4.5 x 9"
That's Crafty! Mediums - Gesso White
That's Crafty! Walnut Ink Crystals
That's Crafty! Pearl Ink Silver, Navy
That's Crafty! Multi-Purpose Craft Adhesive
Archival Ink Jet Black
Extras:under-paper,  re-cycled packing paper.

Instructions

Although I re-cycled under-paper, I have written the steps if starting without the underpaper.

As always, I begin by applying Gesso to the MDF panel. I know it might seem redundant when covering the panel but it's a habit I have got myself into and if I am using finer, light  papers, it will give me a truer colour.

Randomly apply touches of Gesso to re-cycled white packing paper followed by spraying walnut ink, adding further touches of Pearl Ink in Silver and Navy. While preparing papers, applying Gesso to brown packing paper, followed with walnut ink.

Gesso also applied to piece of a difference piece of white re-cycled packing paper, similar to strong tissue paper, diluting Navy Pearl Ink, applying as the Gesso is drying. A leaf from Carved Leaves Set 2, stamped onto this piece of prepared paper.

Papers layered to the MDF panel, focusing the stamped image to lower right side of panel. One of the fabulous circles from ATCoins Set 11,

stamped around the Carved Leaf with Jet Black ink but I wanted to push back the stamped circle, simply by dry brushing, in a stippling fashion, the circles is pushed back slightly.

Removing protective film from one side of an  acrylic shape, adhering to a scrap piece of paper, once dry, cutting away excess and then peeling away upper protective film.

Onto front of acrylic shape, stamping "story" from ATCoins Set 11, edging with Navy Peal Ink before layering onto prepared papers.

That's Crafty! have the options of Walnut Ink as a Flat Matte Spray but also as crystals. With the crystals, there is the freedom to create ink to a variety of strengths and I like the options of decanting into glass jars with screw top lids, having to hand allows for quick washes of walnut ink.

In this instance, I decanted walnut ink, a deeper colour than the Flat Matte Spray, into a spray bottle.  Spraying onto the panel, focusing onto the left side.

Thank you for your visit to this latest post.

Hope you are all managing to stay safe during this time.

  1. An absolutely stunning textured piece of artwork Lynne. The layers of detail are so beautiful and love the way you framed part of the leaf. This really draws the eye.
