Butterfly Dreams by Fliss Goodwin

Hello!

I have another of my Hochanda samples to share this week and this particular one uses one of my favourite techniques for fixing ink sprayed colours that come out slightly brighter than intended. Read on to find out how!

What I Did:

The first step was to prepare my background which in this case is the largest rectangular upright as I love the landscape style it has. I took the new decorative scallop stencil and applied 3D holographic fine texture paste over a little more than half of it. I measured my chosen background stamp first to work out how far to stencil. I left this to dry.

I then stamped on my chosen background starting at the top and adding in more stamping in the leftover space. I used blue ink and once I'd finished stamping, sprinkled on holographic embossing powder and heat embossed the images. This gave a sparkly look to go well with the stencilled area.

I next misted the surface with aqua and bluebell flat matte sprays and as I hadn't used any gesso on the surface, the resulting colours looked quite vintage. I misted the base with the same colours and glued the top and base together with my favourite That's Crafty! multi purpose adhesive which is fab for sticking MDF surfaces together.

I then created my embellishments, taking 2 white/greyboard artist trading coins and the smallest white/greyboard circle from the set. I used the same mask on both - Melina's new Mandala 5 mask - again using the holographic fine texture paste for its' lovely sparkle finish.

I misted the 2 atcoins with rose and orange flat matte spray and the largest circle with saffron and ochre. Both came out a bit too bright for my vintage blue background so I used one of my favourite tricks to tone them down. I misted each one with aubergine lustre spray - this might seem odd but because it contains quite a lot of gold pigment, if you add it on top of bright colours, the gold combined with the deep purple shade gives the colour a real vintage look. As you can see on the pic below, the effect is quite subtle.

I stamped the gorgeous butterfly on smooth white cartridge paper and coloured the image with flat matte sprays - I used aqua, bluebell, lilac and rose - then cut out just the butterfly. I then trimmed out a couple of the words from the remainder of the stamped collage image and coloured these with rose flat matte spray. I stamped dream and wish from one of the new doodlin' stamp sets on a scrap of cartridge paper with black ink and heat embossed them with clear before colouring the word tiles with the rose spray.

I glued everything onto the background to finish off.
