Hi Everyone
I have had a bit of a sort out this week, reorganising my stash of That's Crafty! MDF substrates and rediscovered the cogs MDF upright, this was one of the earlier MDF pieces that That's Crafty! produced which now still forms part of their fabulous, ever growing MDF range.
Here's What I Did:
I started by working directly onto the MDF applying That's Crafty! Sand Texture Paste through the cogs stencil, and onto the smallest MDF cog I used the single cog circular stencil. Once the paste was dry I then painted over it all with Grey Multi Surface Paint. To rust up the cogs I applied Chestnut Brown, Orange and Teal Multi Surface Paint building up the rust effect by applying the paint with my favourite tool, a piece of washing up sponge, which is a great way of laying down additional texture.
To create the colour for the dragonflies I built up colour onto watercolour paper using Distress Oxide sprays. Onto this I repeatedly stamped the dragonflies and set to cutting them all out. I then placed them across the cogs adding them to the piece using That's Crafty! adhesive. I added some touches of rust to their wings using acrylic paint and then covered each dragonfly with gloss gel.
I felt the piece needed a little more interest so added a greyboard wildflower stem, I firstly painted this with Sandstone Multi Surface Paint and the stem was painted with Cracked Pistachio Tim Holtz paint and then all of it was given a watery wash of DecoArt Quinacridone Gold before added further rusty texture with my piece of washing up sponge and acrylic paints.
Final touch was to stamp and add the words which come form Alison Bombers Wings & Flight stamp set by PaperArtsy.
Here's What I Used:
That's Crafty! 8" x 8" Stencil - Cogs & Gears
That's Crafty! Dinky Round Stencil - Cog
That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints - Grey, Chestnut Brown, Orange, Teal & Sandstone
