I thought I’d do something a bit different this week, so I made a set of Steampunk inspired coasters.
That’s Crafty!’s ATCoin stamps are perfect for this. Set 6 has the clock face. I stamped it 4 times onto pieces of white cardstock using Versafine Claire ink. Once dry, I used Flat Matte Sprays in Orange and Ochre then splashed on some water. After leaving it for a minute for the water to react with the ink, I blotted it to create a mottled effect.
The next step was to mask the clock face, and then using That’s Crafty! Dinky stencil - Cogs I added more depth with Rusty Hinge Distress ink.
Setting them aside to dry, I stained the wooden coaster blanks and holder with Orange Flat Matte spray, and stamped the clock face onto the holder, again using Versafine Claire ink.
Going back to the stamped, sprayed, and distressed cardstock pieces, I drew hands onto the clocks, then cut the pieces to fit the coaster blanks, sticking them down very firmly with That’s crafty! All Purpose Craft Glue.
A quick sand around the outside to soften the cut edges gave a lovely neat finish, perfect for distressing with Black Soot Dstress ink.
It was then time to seal the surface to make the coasters usable. A few coats of Spray and Shine was all it took.
Finally, a bit of old chain and 3 tiny cogs gave the steampunk finishing touch.
A splendid set of coasters, fit to grace any self respecting Steampunker’s drawing room side table.
Products I used:
That’s Crafty! Flat Matte Sprays - Orange and Ochre
Distress Inks - Rusty Hinge and Black Soot
Spray and Shine Sealant/Varnish
Bits of old chain and cogs
Thank you for popping by, please come back tomorrow to see what further fabulousness there is to look at.
A really lovely idea Shellie and the coasters look fabulous done steampunk style. Think I might have to pinch this idea too as I love a bit of steampunk!
