Merry & Bright by Fliss Goodwin

Hello!
It's a dismal, dark and wet day today so I have a bright festive creation to share this week to show you that you can make Christmas creations with stamps that are actually not for the festive period as I've used them to make some backgrounds with a resist technique using ink sprays.

What I Did:

I used a variety of stamps to create my backgrounds, stamping with clear embossing ink all over the surface and then heat embossing with clear powder.

I then misted each surface with flat matte sprays using the colours shown below the photos.

Circular pattern - Saffron and Orange. Script pattern - Saffron and Sage

Flourish pattern - Saffron, Basil and Sage. Floral pattern - Orange and Tomato

I then ironed each piece on the reverse side (resting the sheet on a double layer of copy paper) with a dry iron to remove the embossing powder. This gives a much more striking look to the stamped paper.

For my first creation I decided on a card so I used a bunting die to cut some triangles in 2 sizes from my decorated papers. After cutting them out, I cut them vertically through the centre to make smaller shapes (you could cut them horizontally as well although you'd need to stack them before cutting to make sure the shapes would match).

I glued the triangles on a piece of dark grey card so that I had a green one and a red one to provide a strong contrast and cut them out with my ancient deckle edge scissors.

I took a piece of vintage music score from my stash and tore it to fit my chosen card blank. I then swooshed on some diluted multi surface paints and when it was dry, added a glaze of very diluted antique gold metallic paint. I distressed the edges further and glued this to my card.

I created some tree trunks from a scrap of bronze brown paper from my bits box, cutting them out with the deckle scissors and then glued all the elements to my card. I finished off with my chosen text which I stamped on a toning scrap of ink sprayed paper and added some doodling with a fine black pen to draw it all together.

  2. Love your gorgeous, very striking, trees! Brilliant idea to use bunting dies and to split the colours - a brilliant effect. Also love the technique to create the fab patterns. It's good you got the deckle scissors out, we forget our old stuff all too often. xxx
