Dragonfly Collage by Fliss Goodwin

Hello!
If you're reading this when it went live at 11am, That's Crafty! have a show on Hochanda today at 12pm with lots of gorgeous new products although if you missed it, there's always rewind.
I'm delighted to be able to share the first of my samples with you today and a couple of the amazing new stencils are featured on my mixed media collage.

Step by Step

My base for the collage is an 8x8 MDF panel on which I glued some torn scraps of cotton crochet lace using 3D Gloss Gel which is a great glue for this purpose. Once this was dry, I scraped over roughly with texture sand paste which I then left to dry completely.

The next step was to add some stencilling using one of the Affirmations Stencils by Lynne and some of the gorgeous daisy heads from a new 8x8 stencil plus the Dinky Lines Stencil new in last month's show using texture paste and leaving everything to dry well.

I then took some of the Flat Matte Sprays, using Ochre, Sage and Redwood from the new Autumn spray range, plus Basil and Saffron from the first release. I find that if you add several layers of spraying, drying between each coat, you end up with a stronger end result which is what I wanted here. You will find that the texture sand paste and the normal texture paste absorb the sprays differently which adds to the effect.

I next created my dragonfly as the focal point using the gorgeous new stencil. I decided on 2 sets of wings having seen a photo of a dragonfly with this and used the outline section with Teal Multi Surface Paint to form the base for the wings. I then used the mask section with Metallic Purple, Patina and Green Multi Surface Paints to create the pattern on the wings.

I used the outline to draw round the wings and then cut them out. For added shimmer, I brushed on Grren and Lilac Interference Multi Surface Paints. I took the outline again and used the body section with texture paste on mixed media paper to create this. I painted it black and cut it out, then brushed with Metallic Purple and Bronze Multi Surface Paints to add some glimmer. I also added a little bronze to the wings.

I glued the wings to the body with craft adhesive and then glued the dragonfly to the collage with dimensional adhesive to complete my creation.

Supplies:

Mixed Media Paper
Extra - Scraps of torn cotton crochet lace

I hope that you manage to catch the show as there are some fabulous samples created with the new products and Jo has some wonderful demos to share with you.

Have a great weekend and see you next week.
