My Dilemma by Fliss Goodwin

Hello! I've had a bit of a dilemma this week which is the reason for my post title as a couple of weeks ago, I created this background on one of the large size white/greyboard tags. I got the best crackle I've ever achieved thanks to our Neil's instructions and I like it so much as it is that it's been really hard to cover it up! I persevered though and you can see how it ended up further down the post.

Step by Step

The first thing I did was to place part of the beautiful mandala stencil over the Size 10 tag and apply texture paste to make a pattern. Once the paste was dry, I brushed Bright Magenta multi surface paint over the whole tag.

I then brushed a thin coat of crackle glaze over the whole surface. If you saw the last Hochanda shows, Neil did a demo with the crackle glaze and recommended only applying a very thin coat, brushing well to make sure the coat is thin. This time, I made sure it was only a very thin coat which I left to go tacky. I then brushed Light Pink multi surface over the top and as it dried the most amazing amount of crackle appeared!

As you can see above, it really has crackled well and I was so pleased with the result I really struggled to cover it up and had to think hard how I could use it without adding too much.

I stamped one of my fanciful flowers on twice white card with Watering Can Archival ink and painted one with Lavendar and one with Light Pink multi surface paints adding a little detail to the centre of the pink one with a deeper pink marker pen. I cut out the whole lavender flower and just the centre of the pink one. I scrunched them up a bit and glued them together.

I stamped the leafy sprig with the same grey ink on a scrap of paper painted lavender and stamped my chosen text on as well, cutting everything out and cutting the text into 2 pieces. I glued everything to my tag and finished off with some torn sari ribbon in toning colours.

As you can see, I managed to not cover it all up! Hopefully you like what I've done too.
