Shimmering Butterfly Upright by Nikki Acton

Today’s project features the wonderful That’s Crafty! greyboard embellishments (Bits and Pieces) to decorate an MDF upright. These butterflies and the wildflower both come from the small wildflowers set.

I started with the MDF upright – this is the dinky size with the decorative top. I gave it coat of DecoArt Crackle paint and once dry sealed with matt medium. I added washes of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics (Burnt Sienna and a little Burnt Umber) before stamping with the stone background stamp from Tim Holtz (perfect size for the dinky upright!). I added touches of paint to a few of the stones and a few splatters or watery white gesso.

I selected the greyboard pieces I was going to use and sponged gesso over them before adding green paint to the stalks and butterflies. Once dry I added That’s Crafty! Shimmer Paint in Dark Blue over the flowers and butterflies before adding highlights with the Molotow Chrome pen.

A little edging of the upright frame and a metallic sticker to finish!
