Meadow Bright by Fliss Goodwin

Hi there, this week I’m sharing a very bright mixed media art panel and unusually for me, this piece has absolutely no stamping! This is because I’ve been playing with the stunning new bits and pieces greyboard embellishments, my favourite being the beautiful wildflower set, which is perfect for a summer meadow.

Ingredients:

That’s Crafty! Shimmer Paints – Green and Orange
Acrylic Paints – I used a mix of DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics and PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Acrylics
White Pencil
Wooden Skewer

Recipe:

I really love creating my own backgrounds with texture paste and if it’s not bark I’m making, then it’s a grassy meadow with sky above as I’ve done here. That’s Crafty! MDF panels are fabulous for this as they seem to take anything you care to throw at them without fear of buckling.

I applied a thick layer of Grunge Paste to the panel using the Ranger palette knives, which are my tool of choice for adding texture paste. I then spread the top area about a little to resemble sky and used the wooden skewer to draw rough lines down about half of the surface to form my grass. It doesn’t have to be perfect, as you don’t really get the full effect until you add the paint.

I left the panel to dry overnight, largely because the texture paste was quite thick and I wanted to be absolutely sure it had dried right through. I then used several shades of blue and green paint to form my meadow background. I added a little grey shadowing in the grass to emphasize the blades.

The next step was to choose the flowers for my meadow. I used some of the larger wildflowers and a small one and some of the smaller butterflies. I painted them with the acrylic paints adding some shimmer in some areas, which unfortunately don’t show up much in the photos.

Once I was happy with the painting, I added a little detail to some of the flowers with a white pencil and then attached all the embellishments to my completed background panel with silicone glue which I find is the best one to use if your background is not completely flat.

I decided not to add text to my panel as I feel it speaks for itself but you could add some if you want to. Another option is to punch holes in the top with a Crop A Dile and thread some ribbon through. The choice is yours.

We have a new challenge today over at That’s Crafty! Challenge Blog so don’t forget to check it out to see how you can win a great prize.

Have a great weekend and see you next week.
