Acrylic Surfaces with Attitude by Nikki Acton

Hi everyone. Well today I got brave! As you all know That’s Crafty! have recently launched these fabulous Acrylic Surfaces Stacks. I wasn’t brave enough to go with one of the larger ones but have started with the Panel 1 stack which is 11.5 x 8cm – perfect for the Crazy Cats! There are 4 layers to work on, 3 of them being acrylic. By working on each layer the 3D finished result has wonderful depth which is difficult to display with my photography skills!

What I did

Firstly I planned what I wanted to – so that I could stamp each cat in the correct location on each layer. I stamped and die cut the cats on card and positioned them under the see through acrylic so I knew where to stamp. Stamping on the acrylic needs to be done with Stazon.

I painted, primarily, on the reverse side to where I had stamped – so for each cat I added some random colour first – you can see this most on the front – orange cat. So the blue was painted first and once dry I added the orange.

You can of course paint on both sides of the acrylic if you chose to – which is what I did with cat 2 – as I got carried away and wanted additional colour once the body was painted, so I just added it on the side that had been stamped. (Just had to be careful not to paint over the stamped outline.)

For the mdf piece at the back I painted in PaperArtsy Hint of Mint and then used the Dinky Paw Print stencil. Once dry I added the phrase from some Remnant Rubs.

I threw different paints onto the acrylic to see how they all worked, and although drying times varied they all worked just fine!

I hope you like my cats with attitude! I will be back next week for the last week of my That’s Crafty! adventure.
