Love Hurts by Amanda Southern

 Hi Everyone

Today I have an 8” x 8” wall hanging using Seth Apter dies. I have to be honest, when I first saw these dies I wasn’t tempted at all by them, but having seen some fabulous inspiration out there on the internet I warmed towards them and I now, having used them, love them.
I have tried to capture the grungy/urban style of Seth in my first piece with these
dies so hope you like it.

Here’s what I did:-

I started with an A4 piece of Kraft card and cut it to 8” x 8” and then die cut the drip drop die twice and removed the cut card. Having removed the die cuts I then set about colouring the 8” x 8” craft card piece.

I have used 4 colours of Dylusions paint and applied the paint randomly using a small brayer building up the colour combination until I was happy. I then used one of the background texture stamps from Andy Skinners Industrial set and stamped some texture effect on with black Archival.

I then went to the 2 drip drop kraft card die cuts and brayered some white paint roughly over the kraft as I wanted the colour of the card to show through. I glued the painted background onto an 8” x 8” MDF panel and then inserted the drip drop die cuts back into where they were cut from.

I then added some further die cuts from Seth’s range and also using some rust coloured cardstock which I toned down with Rusty Hinge Distress ink.

I then stencilled, applying PaperArtsy Fresco white paint as it is opaque using Cut and Dry foam, through Seth Apter stencils selecting words in keeping with the title of my piece and of course some numbers as I love adding numbers to things. I then gave the entire piece a coating of matte medium to hold everything in place.

The heart is a small MDF heart that I have given the same paint treatment as my background, it just has more black in it to make it stand out. I have wrapped some rusty wire around it and added a screw head brad.

The title of my piece has been stamped and added to a metal book plate which I have rusted up by adding texture sand and a selection of paints.

I have finally finished the piece off by splattering Quinacridone Gold and Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions paint, I have also roughly edged the piece with the turquoise paint.

What I Used:-

Dylusions Paint – White Linen, Black Marble,Vibrant Turquoise & Post Box Red
PaperArtsy Paint – Snowflake, South Pacific & Little Black Dress
Seth Apter Spellbinder Dies – Drip Drop & Ring Around
StencilGirl Stencils by Seth Apter – Transform & Discovery
That’s Crafty! Surfaces – 8” x 8” MDF panel & small MDF Heart
Metal Book Plate
Small Alphabet Stamp Set
Rusty Wire
Screw Head Brads

I have really enjoyed playing with these dies so expect more! Hopefully I have captured the feel of Seth Apter in my piece.

See you next week

Love
