Spring Flower by Moira Sutton

Donna Downey Stencil - Big Peony Blossom
Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals - Pineapple Paradise, Orange Creamsicle, Mango Mania, Canna Lilly Burnt Orange, Cape Cod Coral and Hydrangea Blue
Black Card for Mat7 x 7 Card Blank

Having been promised a mini heat wave this weekend we had had grey skies, miserable cold and rain so I thought a little cheeriness was needed hence my bright spring flower.  I’ve used Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals. These are powders of intense pigment and can be used in so many ways – sprinkled and spritzed with water, mixed with water into paint, mixed with an acrylic medium into acrylic paint, mixed with texture paste/Glass Beads Gel etc, mixed with water and turned into a spray, you can use them on fabric, clay, wood, metal, card, paper. And one of the best things, as they are made with a different type of dye to most pigments/inks it is almost impossible to make mud from them, so using multiple colours becomes a joy. Some are called “Flat” this means they have no added mica and are pure bursts of colour, the others do have mica. Some, such as the “Under the Boardwalk” set also have a little white in them so they are a little chalky and the “Nantucket Pearls” set have pearl mica for a soft sheen.
I cut my Strathmore Mixed Media paper to 6 x 6 and laid my stencil across the corner of the Mixed Media paper, I don’t normally tape stencils down but I did with this one as I was planning on using several coloured pastes on the one stencil. This shows you can use just a part of a large stencil you don’t always have to use 12 x 12 on scrap layouts or larger projects.
Next I set out five little piles of modelling paste I have put a penny in the picture to show you and in the end there was enough Modelling Paste to make two of these.

Anyway I mixed a tiny bit of each of the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals with the pastes, you can see from the picture how much of the yellow I used and started applying from the corner with yellow moving through the different shades of orange in different places on the stencil, blending as I went.

I immediately and carefully lifted the stencil getting it cleaned before the modelling paste dried on it and left the flower to dry.
Next I mixed a tiny amount of the Hydrangea Blue with water on a brush and tapped it across the blank part of the card for some nice splatters. Finally I stamped the saying from the JOFY stamp set and layered the card onto black and then a 7 x 7 card blank.
