Have an Open Heart by Amanda Pink

 Hi Everyone

A few years ago now I used to work on canvases alot but seem to have neglected them in recent years (if I've used any at all???) so having a stash almost bigger than an art shop I thought I'd dig one out and create a mixed media canvas to share with you today.

The canvas is an 8x10 canvas board.
After a quick prime with white gesso I adhered scraps of torn book pages to the canvas.
This was to kick start the creativity and lessen the large area of white space which can often stop us in our tracks. It also added an initial layer of texture.

I then started introducing colour using a selection of Dina Wakley Heavy Body Acrylics: Marine, Turquoise, Lapis, Ocean, Night, White, Black. The paints were applied primarily with a brush but also a brayer and sponges.

Next some stamping using a selection of detail stamps from several different stamp sets: Seth Apters PaperArtsy Eclectica ESA16, Tracy Evans AALL & Create 'Splattered Numbers', Janet Klein 'Background Noise' and Prima's Finnabair 'Don't forget to Fly.

The focal image- the heart is Donna Downey's 'Heart Texture' stencil. It's quite a large stencil hence the size of my canvas but as with all stencils it can be used in many ways with a whole range of different mediums/products.
I used it with DecoArt Black Modelling Paste.

I also took elements of the full stencil image and used them to add interest to the opposing corners of the canvas.

The small open white circles you may have spotted on the close ups were drawn with a white pen using That's Crafty's 'Dotty' stencil.

The last few additions were highlighting the black stencilling with a white pen, making some marks with white paint, splattering some white and black paint around and adding a Craft O' Clock cardboard cut out Quote.
'Have an Open Heart'.

Thanks for taking time out of your day to stop by.
Have a fun creative week
Take Care
