Hi Everyone
Its been a while since I created something with a grungy vibe to share here on That's Crafty's blog and anyone who knows me knows I'm a grungy girl at heart. So for today's project I have created a mixed media art panel using some of Seth Apters products. It is on the grungy side but it also has a subtle pearly sheen and a colourful touch of sparkle.
Bet you never thought you'd hear / read 'grungy', 'pearly' and 'sparkle' in the same sentence???
I worked directly onto a That's Crafty! White/Greyboard panel, covering it with some of Seth Apters Aladine Izink Pearly (Winter Sky, Seafoam, Indigo). I applied with a palette knife and kept the application pretty rough and in keeping with that roughness scratched into the pearly with the side of the knife.
I then applied very randomly and sparingly some of Seths Aladine Izink Diamond (Rose Eggplant) on top of the pearly. I was a bit heavy handed at times with application so used a wet wipe (not too wet) to spread the excess around and thin it out, aswell as wipe some away.
Now, at this point the 'grungy me' started to feel abit 'edgy' with all the sparkle (lol) so I reached for the black paint to dull things down and add the grungy vibe.
I used the paint with a credit card to make some line marks, rubbed some into the scratch marks, added a few paint splatters and caught the sides of the panel with it too.
For a little more detail I added some black ink stamping using one of the Seths PaperArtsy stamps from Eclectica ESA14.
For the focal feature I used one of Seth's dies and his Izink 'Crackle' Textures.
The die was cut from white card and as I only wanted to use the inner 'crossed circle' I cut away the outer square. The 'crossed circle' was then painted black and cracked with the Textures.
I like to leave any kind of crackle medium to air dry naturally as I think it forms better cracks but a heat tool can be used.
After adhering to the art panel I embellished with a small That's Crafty! Greyboard cog that I painted black, caught with touches of the Diamond and topped with a metal washer.
To finish I named the mixed media 'Secrets'.
