Open Heart by Amanda Pink

Hi Everyone

Welcome to my weekly DT post.

Today I'm sharing a mixed media plaque that I've created using some of That's Crafty's surfaces and multi surface paints, a couple of PaperArtsy stamps designed by Seth Apter, a 13arts stencil and some texture mediums by both DecoArt and Tim Holtz/Ranger.
I've called the plaque 'Open Heart' as thats kind of what I did to one side of the heart!!

Although in the photos the plaque may look like a tag, it is infact a That's Crafty MDF plaque with the bottom curved corners cut away.
I began the cut with a paper trimmer and finished it off with a work knife and ruler. I had to 'work' the cut line a good few times due to the thickness and quality of the MDF but I got there in the end.

I created a masterboard background on mixed media paper, colouring it with some of That's Crafty! multi surface paints: Lime, Bright Magenta and Black. The paint was applied with a brayer.

I then covered the plaque with a piece cut from the masterboard, ran some black paint around all the sides and began adding detail.
There's some stamping- I used a couple of stamps from PaperArtsy's Eclectica collection ESA13 designed by Seth Apter stamping them with Plum Archival ink and Twisted Citron distress ink...

....and some black archival ink text stamping using one of Seth Apters I.O stamps.

Theres also some textured stenciling. I applied Tim Holtz ranger distress texture paste through 13arts 'Sunrise -Adorable Circles' stencil using only some of the design, moving the stencil around the plaque as I worked. Some of the stenciling I left white - the colour of the paste....

....some I painted black. To do this I just repositioned the stencil and stippled paint through the stencil design using a stencil brush.

Now for the focal feature, the heart...

...I used a couple of That's Crafty! White Greyboard #5 hearts. I cut one of the hearts in two and adhered one of two halves on to the left side of the whole heart. The other 'open' side of the heart I filled with That's Crafty! Greyboard small cogs, cutting some to fit where necessary.

The heart was then colored with black paint. The left side of the heart was crackled with DecoArt crackle paint, washed with That's Crafty! Lime Multi surface paint when dry while the right side with the cogs was dry brushed with That's Crafty! Bright Magenta paint.

The photo below shows the differing thickness of the two sides of the heart and the dimension the heart has.

To finish off I adhered a couple of 'half' gears along the side edges of the plaque...

and added the words 'Open Heart' across the centre of the heart.
