Bird Boxes by Rachel Harries

 

This week I've been inspired by the fashionable trend of the triple box pop up, I can't make any claim to the mechanics of the design and there are all sorts of videos and blog posts pertaining to it, but I have put my own slant on it.

Measuring and cutting are the order of the day to start off, you can use a 12 x 12 piece of cardstock if you like but it is possible to use a couple of pieces of A4 with these measurements and once you know the principles you can make these pop ups any size you like. I cut three pieces of card stock eleven and a half inches by five and a half inches, and two pieces that are eleven and a half by two and three quarter inches.

With all three pieces I score at; 2 3/4 inches 5 1/2 inches 8 1/4 inches and 11inches.

I then use some stencils and acrylic paint and some Distress ink and texture stamps to decorate the card, I then joined them around and stick them together.

For the interior of the boxes I cut some papers at 2 1/2 inch squared and 2 1/2 x 5 inches twice for the two back sections of the taller shape.

I then stamped and cut out some of the fabulous Katzelcraft images to adhere to my boxes being mindful that it folds down flat and checking elements wouldn't get caught or bent.

And there you have it, this piece could easily be put in a journal page just be mindful of the angle when you stick it in and it makes quite a statement as a card in its own right.
