Live & Play Hard by Amanda Southern

 Hi Everyone
Today I am sharing with you one of the samples that I made to support Last weeks 'One Day Special' from That's Crafty! that launched last Thursday on Hochanda. That's Crafty! has now brought out a range of Inches, Twinchies and Dominoes and some fabulous kits using these pieces. Along side these was the launch of 4 stamp sets with a variety of stamps that perfectly fit the different sized tiles.
If you missed the shows they are available on Hochanda TV's catch up page, all shows are available for 60 days from the day they aired. You will find the launch show HERE but all the others are available, just search by day for the 10th & 11th of September.

For this sample I have used the rectangular kit, you get the MDF backing and a complete set of Craftyboard pieces to perfectly cover the board, obviously you don't have to use them all but I wanted a completely covered piece to create the full tiled effect.

Here's What I Did:

First step was to decide on my colour choices for this project and I went with 2 of my favourite multi surface paints Christmas Red & Midnight Blue along side white.

Next step was to stencil texture paste onto a selection of the tiles. I reached for a couple of stencils, oh I forgot to mention there are also new stencils some which have already become new favourites. The 2 used on this piece are Elegant Panel & Magnificent Mandala (both 6' x 6" stencils).
Next was to add the distressed look to the tiles, this I achieved by sanding back the paint and adding a watered down some Chestnut Brown paint and painted a layer over and then wiped it back.

I wanted to add dimension to the tiles so some tiles were stacked up to 4 high to create a variety of depth, you don't get enough tiles in the kit to achieve this but you can also buy an additional tiles in their own kit. Hopefully this photo shows that depth.

The remaining tiles were then decorated using either some of the new stamps or new Craftyboard pieces. Stamping was with a mixture of heat embossing for some texture and just stamping in black. All the new Craftyboard pieces I used had the same painting and distressing technique applied. The words I added are again Craftyboard alphabet set from an earlier release but got the same paint treatments. All pieces were glued on using That's Crafty craft adhesive. I couldn't resist putting some Glossy Accents in the glass part of the glasses.

Hope you like the finished panel.
Here's What I Used:
That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints - Christmas Red, Midnight Blue, Sandstone & Chestnut Brown
You will find the other 3 stamp sets to accompany the ones I used HERE
Selection of Metallic Embossing Powders - HERE
Versamark Ink Pad (currently out of stock)
Sanding Block

These are so much fun to play with, creating little individual pieces and then putting it all together. You really will have so much fun playing with these.

See you next Tuesday
Love

  2. Wow - the layering for dimension is so clever - the distressing is pure perfection and all the different textures and patterning work just brilliantly together. Fabulous!
