A Head Full of Fears by Amanda Southern

 Hi Everyone
Following the chaos from last week I have managed to grab some arty play time and for this weeks post I am sharing an art journal page with you that features some of the new stamps from Katzelkraft along side some of my favourites from AALL & Create.

Here's What I Did:
I recently purchased some of the Rich chalk paints as I love really matt acrylics and these paints don't disappoint, they have a fabulous coverage and are so matt which adds to the grungy feel (I need more colours now lol) there is also a touch of Lemon Dina Wakley paint. I began my page by just randomly layering up the colours of paint with a brayer, I use a 2" brayer for doing this but any would do.

I love the retro red Rich paint and it matches the new Distress colour, Crackling Campfire, perfectly. I added some number stamping (AALL & Create) using a Crackling Campfire Oxide Ink Pad. The lines have been added by just using the edge of the brayer.

A little stencilling, AALL & Create Lotza Trianglez, with Speckled Egg Distress Oxide and a little shading added with coloured pencils.

Then to add some black stamping, I use Versafine Clair Ink Pads when I am stamping over paint, again using an AALL & Create stamp. The blue X's stamping, as I used as Archival ink pad which dries quickly, I first stamped onto plain collage paper and then added to my page where I needed that detail. Stamping over paint with archival is a bit hit and miss I have found especially as the paint has created some texture.

I added a little some stencilling using a 13 Arts stencil, adding the hanging circles, for this I used Crackling Campfire Distress Oxide, however they don't really stand out but do add a little subtle interest.
Next was to include some of the new AALL & Create's fabulous new washi tapes. I did this by putting a strip onto some paper and then punching out of the tape using a couple of small circle punches, I then glued the circles to my page. To highlight them further I went around each circle with a blendable black pencil. I also used a couple of torn strips of washi tape from 2 of the other designs to ground my images onto.

Next to stamp out my images to feature on my page, stamped with Versafine Clair Ink. The 2 Katzelkraft figures I wanted to use weren't tall enough for my design so I just extended their legs using a black fineliner pen. They needed to tower above my central image of the sleeping woman (AALL & Create) as these are her demons and you just can't have short demons!

Then everything was coloured with pencils (Prismacolor). I always edge all my cut out images to remove the white edges of the card.
The words on the page are from a Dina Wakley collage paper words pack which I added first to white card with gel medium and then when dry cut out, added to my page, and doodled around with a black pen.

  1. What a fantastic, powerful piece... those bullying monstrous fears attacking the woman, the wonderful background, and great words.
