Hi Everyone
Hope you are all keeping safe and well.
I have another tag to share with you this week. Todays tag is smaller than last weeks, still mixed media though and it has (I think) a distressed rustic feel. Its main feature is a framed grungily coloured die cut butterfly.
I worked directly onto a That's Crafty! White/Greyboard tag #8. The quality of That's Crafty's White/ Greyboard is such that it can cope with lots of mediums being 'thrown at it' so an ideal substrate for mixed media art.
I wanted to create a focal area for the butterfly so drew a circle on the tag and masked it off with a die cut circle. I then positioned Tim Holtz 'String' layering stencil horizontally on to the upper unmasked area of the tag and applied texture paste through the stencil design.
Once this section was dry I repeated the process on the lower unmasked area of the tag.
To add some colour to the textured stenciling I used some of Seth Apters Izink dye sprays: Sunflower, Honey, Tea, Coffee.
Once the sprayed colours were completely dry I painted into the textured grooves with some dark brown paint to emphasise them more.
To finish off the tag background I sanded back some of the colour to give a more distressed finish. I also caught the edges of the tag and some of the raised areas of textured stenciling with some DecoArt Patina Green Antiquing Cream.
A quick routle through my box of 'rusty finds' provided me with an ideal tag hanger! One mans trash and all that !!
The open circle area of the tag was simply covered with a circle of script paper taken from a 13Arts paper pad.
The circular frame was created using the outer circle of Seth Apters Loop de loop die. I die cut several and stacked them on top of each other for thickness. The frame was textured with Grit Paste, painted with dark brown acrylic paint and (like the tag) caught in areas with the Patina Antiquing Cream.
The main focal feature that sits on a painted wood chip within the famed circle is of course the butterfly. He was created using one of the butterflies from Tim Holtz/Sissix 'Detailed Butterflies' die set.
HIs wings are coloured with both Distress inks and Izink dye sprays and his thorax was embellished with a twig topped with a rusty heart.
I doubled him up (adhered him to a second butterfly die cut) to give him not only better rigidity but also more dimension and a manipulation of his wings gave him a sense of movement too.
All that remained was to add a few words provided by Tim Holtz clipping stickers!
