Mechanical Village by Rachel Harries

I've used one of the new substrates from Thats Crafty! and some of the greyboard houses that do have stamps to go with them if you prefer but I used them in this project just as they were. I started off taking some time to play with the houses and cogs and decide where I wanted them.

I added some Soft Body Gel to adhere varied sizes of art stones and then gave everything a coat of black gesso.

I used some icing paste in an embossing folder to create some texture to add to different areas, I also moistened some cardboard so I could remove the top layer exposing the corrugated texture to use in areas too.

I then added another coat of black gesso and some gesso to some resin pieces I will be adding, before painting with two metallic paints to the main piece.

I then got my waxes out and picked out various areas, if you don't have waxes dry brushing would work well.

I have a play with the doors and windows to decide which ones I'm going to use and where I want to put them, then I put them in my spray box and use some agenda spray paints before applying a little wax and then sticking them in place along with the resin pieces.

I then added a little black gesso in places that I wanted a little more shadow and also a little matt green paint in places to give a more mossy appearance.

I added a couple of dots here and there of Stickles for door handles and also just here and there for more texture.

I hope you enjoy this project, stay safe and see you next week.

  1. An absolutely amazing textured piece of artwork Rachel. The detail is stunning as always and all the layered elements look just fabulous with their metallic sheen.
