Hi Everyone
Welcome to my Thursday weekly DT post.
Today I am sharing a grungy mixed media tag that features some of That's Crafty! MDF and White/ Greyboard hearts.
The tag itself is a Thats Crafty! MDF Tag #8. A fantastic surface to work directly on to as (in my experience) it stands up to all types of art/ mixed media mediums. Nice and sturdy too.
The tag itself is a Thats Crafty! MDF Tag #8. A fantastic surface to work directly on to as (in my experience) it stands up to all types of art/ mixed media mediums. Nice and sturdy too.
There were a number of layers involved in creating the tag background beginning with a couple of coats of gesso to prime the tag. Next, I adhered torn paper to a few areas of the tag before introducing some colour. For this I used a couple of the new PaperArtsy's Fresco Finish Acrylic paint colours: Grape and Blue Bayou. I then gently brayered over the tag with some Black Acrylic paint so it caught in some areas and not others.
For a touch more detail I added some stamping using the text part of one of AALL and Creates stamps.
I also created some crackled circles using Crackle paint with a 13Arts stencil.
The focal feature is made up of 4 hearts, 3 of which are either That's Crafty! MDF Hearts or That's Crafty! White/Greyboard Hearts.
For the largest of the hearts I stippled it with black acrylic paint and dried the paint with a heat gun. I held the gun close to the paint so it would 'bubble' to give texture which I then 'caught' with some That's Crafty! White gesso.
The medium sized heart was lightly crackled with crackle paint.
The smallest of the 3 hearts was one 'I made earlier' to coin a good old 'Blue Peter' phrase. It was simply treated to layers of Acrylic paint roughly applied by finger.
The three altered hearts were adhered to each other and embellished with a metal heart before being adhered to the tag atop a couple of rows of Tim Holtz designer tape.
To finish off the tag hole I covered it with a metal eyelet and then threaded it with some strands of black twine.

Really gorgeous layers of texture Amanda and love the grungy layers of colour too. A really striking piece in black and white with just touches of colour which lift the whole thing to the next level.
