Autumn in Everything by Lynne Moncrieff

Hello

That's Crafty! Pearl Inks created a lovely wash background for this collage, the Bronze bringing the colour of Autumn, with hand-stitched details, with a coppery embroidery thread, adding texture to the stamped PaperArtsy ECF leaf and a cluster of French Knots to add balance on the collage.

Supplies

That's Crafty! Mediums White Gesso
That's Crafty! Multi-Purpose Craft Adhesive
That's Crafty! Surfaces MDF Panels 8"x8" Pack of 3
That's Crafty! Pearl Inks: Black, Copper, Tree Bark, Antique Gold
PaperArtsy Eclectica EAB04 Designed by Alison Bomber
PaperArtsy Eclectica ECF06 Designed by Courtney Frainch
Archival Ink Designer Series Potting Soil
Extras: Sewing Thread, Cotton Rag/Watercolour Paper

Instructions

After Gesso randomly applied to the paper, time to begin working with the Pearl Inks. Spraying the paper panel first with water before dripping the inks, applying them horizontally, then adding some gentle splatters of Pearl Inks.

Onto the background panel, I layered some torn pieces, not adhering them at this point.
The beautiful leaf stamp from PaperArtsy was stamped, with Potting Soil ink, stamped so that the leaf was also stamped onto the layered papers.

Those torn elements were then adhered to the background.

At this stage, I wanted some hand-stitching. Using the needle to form the holes makes it easier to approach hand-stitching onto paper. With a lovely, coppery colour embroidery thread, working with 2 strands, I stitched onto the leaf.

With the Potting Soil ink and one of the wonderful stamps from the EAB stamp set, a quote was repeatedly stamped onto the background. I approached the quote stamp by randomly inking it, I wanted a distressed appearance, really wanting the words "autumn in everything" to be the words that were most prominent.

To create balance, on the right side of the collage, I stitched some French Knots (please don't look too closely!!!)  stitched onto overlapping layers of stained papers.

The completed collage was then adhered to a That's Crafty! 8"x 8" MDF panel.

Thank You for taking the time to visit this blog post and depending on where you call home, maybe you are surrounded by everything Autumn.

Kind Wishes
Lynne

  1. Courtney's leaves are magical, aren't they? And I have to confess I was so taken with the bubbly ones that I scarcely noticed this wonderful fir frond on the same set! It's perfect here with your pearly neutrals, and offset from centre to allow the words to drift across the rest of the page. Beautiful, Lynne.
