Instructions

I like to prep the MDF by randomly applying Gesso, even though I know that the surface will be covered with paper, it's just something I like to do.

The teabag paper which I would be layering to the MDF was paper I used as underpaper when I was drying stained papers. By happenstance, the result was a beautiful, naturalistic mottled effect, the same paper as used on the recent Artist Trading Block.

With Gel Medium, I adhered the stained paper to the MDF.

The focal of this project, a beautiful leaf stamp. I had a piece of handmade paper which was slightly scrunched which I could have smoothed out/ironed but decided to take a leap of faith and stamp the leaf onto this piece, the stamp overlapping two pieces of the paper.

With cotton sewing thread, I hand-stitched along the centre of the stamped leaf adding a row of stitches to the left side. Before adhering to the panel, I gathered more scrappy papers - more tea bag paper which had been covered with walnut ink and touches of the Interference Gold paint, a piece of brown packing paper which had some Gesso swiped onto it and smaller pieces of more walnut stained tea bag paper with Interference Gold paint. All layered to the panel.

To the edges of the handmade paper, with fingertips, I lightly applied Sand Texture Paste, with words stamped onto paper scraps and layered to the panel.

Before adhering the two off-cuts of branches, again with my fingertips, Bronze and Interference Gold paint were applied to the panel,

if too much was applied, I scraped away excess with a palette knife. Also with a palette knife, I swiped on some Texture Paste and Sand Paste to the panel, also drawing the Sand Paste around the edges of the MDF panel, with touches added to the off-cut branch towards lover edge of panel.

The final touches, two off-cuts from branches with Sand Paste applied to the bottom piece, the final touch, an old button.

That's Crafty! have an amazing range of MDF Surfaces, available.

Thank You for taking the time to visit,
Wishes

  1. Dear Lynne, I love how your piece is airy and light, because of the patches not totally adhered, but with loose corners, and the sewing on the leaf , so lovely !! Such beautiful colors, too - a gorgeous creation! xxx
