Hello Everyone
Welcome to my Thursday weekly post of Creativity.
It's been one of those weeks where the clock ticked way faster than I wanted it to, so as time seemed to elude me I have kept the creativity relatively straightforward this week and made an Art Card/ Panel using one of AALL and Creates newly released stencils designed by Fiona Paltridge.
This stencil really caught my eye as soon as I saw it so inevitably it was an absolute must have!
I have used a technique that has been shared on this blog a few times before (here and here) by my super talented team mate Amanda Southern.
I thought it would be well suited to the stencil imagery and give a 'striking' finish.
I worked on mixed media paper and began by adding colour to the 6x6 precut panel. Distress inks are the usual 'go to' medium for this technique but I wanted to change things up a little so paints were my medium of choice. I used 'Cut n Dry' to apply and blend the paint colours into each other. Once dry (with a heat gun) I positioned the stencil in place and applied heavy body gel medium through the stencil design using a palette knife. I then set aside to air dry whilst heading off to clean the stencil.
Note: Heavy body gel can also be used as a strong adhesive so if left unwashed could stick to your stencil permanently!
I have previously used Transparent Texture Paste for this technique so that could be a preferred product option.
When the gel was completely dry I applied Black Soot Distress ink over the entire stenciled panel. I then repositioned the clean dry stencil and using an almost dry wet wipe wiped back the ink covering the stencilling to reveal the colours beneath.
After removing the stencil I also dabbed around the surrounding black areas with the wet wipe to create a kind of mottled, somewhat atmospheric effect.
I added some additional stenciling to the outer edges of the panel using texture paste through a couple more stencils, some highlights and lowlights and some white gesso splatters
The panel is adhered to a triple mount of white, red and black cardstock which I then adhered to a piece of black mountboard to give as an Art card/ panel but if you prefer a traditional card format then you could either make a card base or use a ready made one.
