Hi Everyone
That's Crafty! have a fabulous collection of substrates, my favourites being all the MDF pieces and there are many designs to choose from, this week I am playing with an ATC Chunkie and an
MDF Heart size #8.
Here's What I Did:
The first thing was to prep my MDF pieces, I built up the ATC Chunkie which only takes a moment and then gave everything a light coat of gesso, this includes a thick bamboo skewer that would be my method of standing my heart. You will notice that I have created a hole in the Chunkie ready to take the skewer when finished. The ATC Chunkies make a fabulous base for your work even if that isn't their primary function.
My intended result was to give the piece a distressed grungy look so I now had to build up my layers of paint. I painted everything with That's Crafty! Christmas Red paint this took a couple of coats and then painted a layer of black paint over that. When the paint is totally dry I took a sanding block to it all and removed a lot of the black layer and in places some of the red taking it back to the MDF. This leaves a great distressed look.
I then added stamping and stencilling using the coordinating stamp and stencils from 13 Arts, I love adding numbers to things I don't know what it is but I love numbers (I hate maths so it's not that!). Where ever I stamped and stencilled I also sanded back those to make them look distressed.
I added further stencilling again with the 13 Arts stencil but this time using That's Crafty! Light Texture Paste. Once that was dry I added splashes of watered down chestnut acrylic paint. I also painted and added a little heart embellishment from the Wycinanka range which recently arrived in the shop. The whole thing was then sealed using vintage collage medium which gives a further distress and aged effect as well as sealing your work. The MDF heart was then wrapped in some rusty wire from my stash and a large Chit Chat sticker added with the word desire. I painted my skewer black and white and again distressed it before glueing it into the Chunkie and to the back of the heart.
Here you can see the details on the heart.
