Hi Everyone
I'm sharing with you today the demo piece I made to support the Hochanda TV launch of yet another fabulous product from That's Crafty! the latest addition to their ever growing range is a selection of pre-cut Artist Trading Coins in various substrates and storage solutions to house them. If you missed the shows you can always watch them via Hochanda TV's catch up function HERE and HERE for both of the shows.
I really enjoyed making this piece and this was my first outing making Artist Trading Coins and wont be my last as they are 2.5" of arty fun. These little coins seem to be everywhere at the moment and these pre-cut coins make joining that party even easier.
I'll give you a little warning that this is quite a longer post than normal in order to share all this with you but I will keep it as short as I can.
Here's What I Did:
My starting point was to decorate the ATCoin display stand. My intention was to have quite a grungy look to all of my ATCoins so wanted a back drop to compliment them and came up with the idea of painting a Union Jack onto the display stand. Well that wasn't as easy as I first thought!!!!! I had to download a template from the internet to help me draw it out accurately.
I painted the whole thing with That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints starting with white including the little shelves and then drew the flag on top of that and using lots of masking tape painted in the red and blue.
I then lined up the shelves and marked up the red and blue sections that lined up with the sections of colour on the wall piece.
Now it's looking far to pristine at this point and I knew I had to take a sanding block to it, it took me ages to get it to this stage and I couldn't bring myself to do it and had to sleep on it lol.
With a good nights sleep under my belt I grabbed a sanding block and set about sanding it removing the paint and generally roughing it up! Once I had removed it to the point I needed I gave it a wash using watered down Chestnut Brown That's Crafty! paint. This I did several times to build up the brown and grungy look.
Now onto my coins to fill my display stand which takes 14 coins to fill.
Along with the coins and display units, launched a range of ATCoins stamp sets and stencils and I am showcasing here one of the 6 sets available, set #5 and several of the ATCoins stencils. I have made my coins using each of the 3 substrates available MDF, Greyboard & Whiteboard.
These coins have all been painted with Multi Surface Paint and sanded back and aged again with Chestnut Brown paint and then stamped or stencilled on using the new stamps and stencils. Extra's include embellishments that are also new to the shop Wycinanka Chipboard shapes. The silver balls are Prima Art Stones that I have made chrome using the Molotow Liquid Chrome pens. Words are either Tim's Chit Chat stickers or Remnant Rubs.
Where the stamp has been painted and over stamped I used a Stamping Platform and left the ATCoin in its carrier sheet so I could over stamp in the same place to stamp the detail back in (both skull coins)
Same technique as above (make a wish coin used an older That's Crafty! stamp set Textures Collection #4)
Again same as above (Lucky 7 coin used a die cut 7 from my stash and again Textures Set #4)
Here's What I Used:
That's Crafty! ATCoins Stamps - Set 5
That's Crafty! Round Dinky Stencils - Arrows, Basket Weave, Splats
That's Crafty! Multi Surface Paints - Various Colours
Sanding Block
Die Cut Number
I hope that I've given you a little inspiration to start making your own ATCoins, if like me, you haven't tried them yet, If you have you can now extend your ATCoin collection with these fabulous products. You can find everything that was featured in the last shows all in one place HERE on the website to make it easier.
We would love to see what you make and would love it if you shared your makes over on That's Crafty! Creatives Facebook Page and the new Artist Trading Coins UK page.
Have a fabulous week and I will see you all next Tuesday
