Imagine - A Mixed Media Tag by Fliss Goodwin

Hi there!
I have something a bit different to share this week with quite a lot of texture which came about as I was experimenting a while back with using crackle glaze on a variety of different surfaces and the one I chose to use here was a wood veneer scrap given to me by a dear friend who used to decorate dolls houses.

What I Did:

I brushed my piece of wood veneer with a thin layer of crackle glaze and once it was dry, added a layer of white gesso. After a few seconds, crackle began to appear and enhance the grain already showing from the wood.

I then got to work with ink sprays and walnut ink crystals to transform the look of the veneer and give it an aged look. I used the new Autumn shades of Flat Matte Sprays, choosing Sage, Blueberry and Ochre. The walnut ink crystals were lightly sprinkled in places and as the ink spray was still wet, spread nicely without needing to add any more water.

I painted the top of my chosen tag with chestnut brown multi surface paint and used my fingers to add some metallic bronze multi surface paint around the edges of the wood panel which I trimmed to fit the tag. I then glued this in place with craft adhesive.

I next cut a piece of corrugated card to fit my chosen flower from one of Lynne's gorgeous new Word Flower sets and distressed the edges. I brushed the surface with multi surface paints, using ivory, buttercup, green and chestnut brown with a little white gesso until I was happy with the effect. I glued this to my wood background.

My flower was stamped on a scrap of my ever useful spray overflow sheets and happily was a mix of green and yellow. I used Vintage Sepia Versafine ink and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder. I added a touch more colour with orange and saffron ink sprays.

I cut the flower out and glued it to the corrugated panel with dimensional adhesive and finished off my tag with a scrap of toning recycled sari silk ribbon.

Supplies:

That's Crafty! Surfaces - Greyboard Long Tag (from a set of 18 with several different top shapes)
Scrap of Ochre Recycled Sari Silk Ribbon
Scrap of Wood Veneer
Have a great weekend and see you next week.
