'X'.... by Amanda Pink

Hi Everyone
Welcome to my weekly post as a Guest Designer here at That's Crafty!
This week I have created an art panel/ piece of wall art that is a mix up of both colour and grunge.

The background is made using what I call my 'tie dye technique'. Some of you who follow me will have seen me use it on a couple of my previous projects and it came about as a result of wanting a 60's/70's hippie style background and my love of tie dye.
Basically to create it you do exactly the same as you would if you were 'tie dying' but use paper and ink instead of fabric and dye.

Take a piece of copier paper, cut into a square and then concertina fold along the diagonal.
Tie string at intervals around the folded paper.

Spray with various colours of ink and leave to dry.
Untie the string and open up the folded paper to reveal the tie dyed pattern .
Blast with heat gun to ensure its thoroughly dry and adhere to a piece of white cardstock/ mixed media paper to give the copier paper extra strength.

In addition I also stamped with a text and speckle stamp and brayered gently over the tie dyed background using both black and white gesso to add the grunge factor

I brayered 'with the folds' so as to highlight them

and of course I couldn't resist adding some paint splatters

The focal feature is a combination of two Seth Apter dies, Periscope and Drip Drop. Both dies were cut several times and each set of die cuts were adhered together to give thickness and depth.
Periscope was covered with canvas that was painted with black and white gesso again for a grungier look.

The circle from the Drip Drop die was crackled with Crackle paint and the 'X' embellished with a stud/popper from an old pair of my jeans.

The tie dyed panel is mounted on a gesso/ grit pasted That's Crafty! MDF 6x6 square which is then mounted onto a piece of whiteboard painted with black gesso.
The finishing touches are some capped hex nuts from my stash on each of the four corners.

Products Used

Canvas sheet
Hardware from my own stash

I hope you have enjoyed  your time with me today and that maybe my project has offered you some creative inspiration.
