Hello everyone and welcome to my post for this week which is a mixed media art panel featuring my favourite hummingbird greyboard shape who is fluttering among some tropical leaves.
The first thing I did was to colour my white/greyboard panel by brayering on a mix of teal, white and green multi surface paints.
I then used the lovely leaves mini stencil with texture paste to create a sort of tropical rainforest look to the panel. You have to add the leaves bit by bit, allowing some sections to dry before adding the next set. It took me 2 goes to get them all on the panel.
Once the paste was fully dry, I painted the leaves with a mix of watered down multi surface paints, using green, red and yellow until I was happy with the effect.
Now comes the really fun part - decorating the hummingbird. I used a photo from the internet for reference and first used an embossing ball tool (quite a fine one) to add detail to the wings and tail. I then painted the bird with various shimmer paints, dotting the paint on the body area to resemble the photo.
I then felt the background needed a little something extra so I used the bubble wrap stencil with green paint to add some pattern.
I stamped my chosen text on white mixed media paper with Watering Can Archival ink, cut the text into word tiles and brushed with diluted teal paint before distressing the edges and adding to the panel to finish.
I used:
