Bronze Verdigris Journal Cover by Tracey Fairgrieve

It's Monday already I do hope you have all had a good weekend?
Today on the That's Crafty! Blog I'm sharing the front cover of my 6" x 6" Journal
with its Bronze and Verdigris effect.

Here in words and pictures are those how to do's..

I first started by priming the white/grey board page with white Gesso then added a coating of Calypso Teal paint. Using the Word series stencils I stencilled through the words with white Gesso.

Using sets 1 and 2 from the Textures stamp sets images were stamped and heat
embossed using clear embossing powder. I then placed each word series stencil back over the stencilled words and pushed clear modelling paste through. When dry the page was
ready to be painted.

Using a selection of DecoArt Media Fluid paints I gradually built up the colours allowing the transparency of some colours to work with both the base colour and the clear wording. Antiquing cream was applied over some of the raised areas and Textured sand paste applied in areas that had less detail. When dry Raw Umber has been used to add shadow and shade on the page and the antiquing cream rubbed back to expose the colours below.

As Antiquing cream never cures I coated the page in matte medium to preserve
it adding waxes to accentuate some of those raised areas.

Because of its polished look I found this quite difficult to photograph but I hope by the photographs shown you can understand the process and end product achieved.
I'm not very consistent with Journals and find I'm all too eager to start but after a handful of entries my enthusiasm tends to wane.. With the advantage of being able to take out the board pages I'm sure my  journal journey will now be a longer one.

I do hope you have managed to keep up with me.?? Have a great week and I look forward to sharing another That's Crafty! make with you all next Monday.

Hugs Tracey xx

    1. Thank you Lynne, I have made it a personal goal to complete this Journal and already have a couple of ideas on what projects I can bring to it next. The cover is full of texture I must admit, who would have thought a little paste and embossing powder could produce such effects xx

  5. Amazing texture Tracey and the colours you chose look just gorgeous. The painting over embossing is very creative too, a great tip.

    1. Oh Thank you Fliss, I find painting over embossed images with paint gives a great effect and can sometimes get rid of that over glossy look that tends to make some projects a little Brassy.. Tracey xx
