Addicted to Acrylic by Donna Gray

Hi everyone,

Donna here today with an acrylic stack which I’m now officially obsessed with!! It’s not at all scary…….promise ;)

What to do:

This really is a very individual preference thing as some people work front to back or vice versa, for this I worked on the back first (which is an MDF panel). Stamp the trees with black Archival ink and then colour the background using Gelatos, splash some water on, dab with a kitchen towel and you can create a lovely dappled effect.

Next step is to take a Dinky stars stencil and pounce a blue shade of Distress ink through it. Colour the trees using Distress markers. At this stage that’s your background done.

Here’s where placement becomes important as you want to achieve a layered 3D effect so be careful where your next images go. You have an MDF panel and 3 acrylic ones.

The first acrylic panel is where you stamp the cloud in black Stazon and colour in the back of the image with a Fresco paint in White Fire. It’s really important to only use Stazon on the acrylic as it dries instantly and does not smear. I find Fresco paints work really well on this, you can also use Promarkers and Posca pens. Allow that to dry thoroughly then stamp the wish sentiment on the front of the panel over the cloud.

Second acrylic panel is where you stamp the tree branch, colour in the back with green Promarkers for a more translucent effect.

The third and final acrylic panel, you stamp the little bird on so it appears to be sitting atop one of the trees. Once again, colour the back of the bird with a Fresco paint.

Once you’re happy with that, you can assemble the stack together using the screws and washers provided. If you make a mistake with your stamping on the acrylic it can easily be removed with a dab of the Stazon cleaner.

These acrylic stacks are so much fun and really so addictive once you get started on them, I’ve made a few now and the possibilities are endless!
