Ink Spray Storage by Moira Sutton

PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Acrylic Paints – London Bus, Pumpkin Soup, Sherbet, Bougainvillea, Claret, Banana, Granny Smith, Smurf, Gaucamole, Tinned Peas, Toad Hall, Mushroom
Archival Ink – Jet Black and Watering Can

I have really fallen in love with the That’s Crafty! stacking storage units and have finally got round to decorating this one for my Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprays. Of course it would have made sense to use the sprays themselves to decorate the unit but hey why be sensible when I can choose to be contrary!  Also when I filled it up with my Lindy’s spray bottles I realised I needed another box as I have too many bottles for one, but not enough to fill two boxes so therefore had to order more Lindy’s as well. Well you can never have too many!

Anyway this is what I did.

  1. Put the Storage unit together using Cosmic Shimmer Glue on the corners and joints.

  2. Gave it a coat of Gesso.

  3. Using a sponge dabbed the different green paints on the outside of the unit to create a mottled green effect.

  4. Painted the inside of the box with Mushroom.

  5. Stamped all the stamps onto tissue paper using the Jet Black Archival ink, and painted them in on the reverse side.

As I have used largely opaque paints the colour will show up clearly on the “right Side” and over the background greens, however if using a translucent paint it may help to paint white over the colour so it does not disappear into the background.

  6. Tore the images out, using a wet brush to dampen the tissue to assist it tearing, do not cut it as straight lines of cut are harder to meld into the background.

  7. Attached the torn images to the box using gel medium under and over the images, being careful to remove any air bubbles with a brush, or an old credit card, for a smooth finish.

  8. Added any stamping to fill any gaps using Archival ink in Watering Can and the texture stamps from the PaperArtsy Jofy 12 set.

  9. Using the darkest paint added “ageing” to the edges and top of the box and sealed all over, including the inside, with a coat of Glue n Seal to protect the wood from any ink spills.
